Maybe, but he'll still have to kick in places like Green Bay and Soldier Field each year. While he could end up doing a "Robbie Gould" and improve as a kicker, I sure would not gamble on him. But if the Vikes sign him, maybe that's good for the Bears.
Lord help us if the Vikings pick him up and he proceeds to nail 90+% of his kicks at SF throughout the rest of his career. People will forget how downright bad he was and hammer Pace for letting him go.
You think the Vikings might fix a kicker? Ha! We brake them!
Even though the Vikings ST coach was an assistant with Parkey in 2017, I don't see any way the Vikings front office signs themselves up for Parkey after his 2018 season. The Vikings have had enough dealings with headcase kickers.

just happy Parkey is gone. Guy was bad, lost the whole Season (TWICE) and acted like a douche. Hope his defenders realize how bad he was now he is gone.

Urlacher was quoted, regarding parkey, that one guy doesn't lose a game. Got to be more complex then that. Parkey was in fact merely average in the NFL; which is why he was replaced. Teams shouldn't just accept average, which was my point for a good part of Cutlers career, he was nothing more then average and the team not only kept him around, but gave him a team unfriendly contract to boot at the end. For that reason I'm glad parkey is gone, you shouldn't accept average. Amos is average, which is why if his price tag gets out of contol I hope they pass on him, and hope they aren't in a hurry to re sign him.

Lot of people are going to flip flop on Parkey now similar to what they did with Cutler after we released him.

I think you are being awfully generous in calling him "average". He missed 11 kicks, several of them being 4th Q or OT game winner-type attempts. Dude was BAD, plain and simple. He compounded being bad by playing the victim on the Today show and using "long commutes" as an excuse for why his work ethic was being questioned.
He won't be missed and he's got a lot to prove before any other NFL team would risk a multi-year contract on him.

No i'm just being factual. he ranked 16th in the NFL last yeara in FG's per nfl. no he won't be missed, espeically if Pace finally fixes the position. I'm not going to miss him anymore then i missed Gould when he left. Both weren't good enough by the time they were cut.
I totally agree that 1 guy doesn't lose a game, on his own. It is a team sport. But that being said, we have all seen countless NFL games come down to 1 kick that equates to a win or loss. Many of the biggest games I have watched over the past 55 or so years have come down to the kicker. Countless games won or lost. Seasons are ended or extended. Super Bowls have been won when the kicker hit the game winning FG.
So, yes, no question it is a team sport with 53 important guys. But often it comes down to the QB play or the kicker, making the game winning score.
With that in mind, I'm thankful we've moved on from Parkey. No Bears fan in his right mind would want to go into this season with him at K again. I really don't care that some other teams may have had worse kickers last year. You don't set the bar on "not being the worst" if you want to win a championship. Certainly (Captain Obvious here, I know) you don't go into a season with a mediocre (or worse) kicker.

Some people are gonna say “hindsight is 20-20” but let’s be honest here, Pace kinda screwed that situation up badly. Not saying he could have known in advance that Parkey would flop—some FA signings just don’t work out no matter how good they look initially—but that the team failed to react when problems surfaced during mid season.
CP doinked 4 kicks—FOUR!!!!!—and at least 3 of them were short ones during one home game we were still fortunate enough to win. This was after missing what would have been a game winner in Miami (admittedly a long attempt). Then it leaked out in the press that he wasn’t practicing much at SF because “the commute was too long”. Can anyone say: ‘MAJOR RED FLAG’
There was clearly a problem and competition should have been brought in immediately. At least for the purpose of lighting a fire under Parkey’s ass, if not replacing him outright. It wasn’t. The media asked the Bears about it at the time and they refused. Then Parkey went on to miss another probable game winner in New York as well. It’s not like we went into the playoffs with any sense of confidence in our kicker. In fact, it was the complete opposite. Even the national football media was listing “FG kicking” as a potential Achilles heel for the Bears in the playoff tournament.

I think the Bears were just hoping it was a temporary mental thing with Parkey that he could work through, and get on track again. Gould looked like crap here towards the end of his Bears tenure and virtually all the fans wanted him gone (I was one too). Then he gets his act together for SF and looks like a stud. I could see Parkey having a come back for a new team.. at least I wouldn't rule it out. Kickers are such a different breed. It really is not uncommon for good ones to go through periods where they struggle. Some come back fine. Others don't. Once you get a good one, I figure he's worth his weight in gold. And they can have such long careers too.

There were no other good options. And you don't throw a player under the bus when they have one bad game. Take that game out and he was in the top tier of kickers. Pace would've looked like a panicky idiot replacing him after one bad game. That's not going to encourage any decent kickers to come here if Pace has a rep for kicking you to the curb the instant you make a mistake.
