plenty of young talented kickers, just find the one that can do it in SF.
Agree totally. I want Pace to go out and find the next Robbie Gould and don't want him to spend a lot of money on a veteran kicker with a significant resume.
Couldn't agree more--not into the Gould thing as so many have been touting. Too expensive, aging (yet still good), and lets be honest he's probably not getting out of San Fran anyway.
Pace has plenty of opportunity to find a young, cheap kicker in the UDFA market or late draft.

nope it just came out he was franchised. I almost wonder if this entire last part of the season/off season wasn't him pinning them into a corner for one more big contract.

Whether Gould wanted to stay in San Fran or not, no question he was gonna get paid by someone. The Bears aren't the only team in need of an upgrade at kicker, even if they were the sentimental favorite as a potential suitor. RG was in the driver's seat there no question. San Fran has to pay him one way of the other or he was going to get equal or better money somewhere else.
I never heard of franchising a kicker. Has this happened before?
I read that. Franchising a kicker seems nuts to me. I read that the 49ers can still make a deal with the Bears for Gould but it would cost us 2 (yes two) 1st round draft picks. Of course then we would still have to pay Robbie the big bucks too. LOL. I'm all-in for getting a solid kicker, but we don't need to gut the franchise for Robbie... this is where your scouting department and Pace need to do their job and get a young version of Gould signed. Usually the best kickers in the draft are NOT high round draft picks. In fact most of the best kickers in NFL history have been undrafted or late round picks. We don't have to mortgage the farm here for Robbie. Bring in a young guy.
Looks like the Bears will be able to spread Parkey's cap hit over the next two years.
LOL nice. Fack him over a bit after he chirped like a bird.
Yep. It actually hard to f*** up as bad as Parkey did to piss the fan base off that much and so quickly.
First he missed way too many kicks in the RS and was overpaid Then it came out that the reason he wasn't practicing more at Soldier Field was that "the commute was too long" Then he lost a playoff game and quite possibly cost the team a SB appearance Then pandered for sympathy in a self-serving Today show interview
Talk about exhausting your likability capital in short order!

For a lot of these guys it is just a job with a huge paycheck. And all they want to do is get paid. Unfortunately the guys like Kyle Long are the exception rather than the rule. As of now it looks like Parkey will end up in Minnesota. I expect him to do well in a domed stadium and on turf. He will have a consistent (and easy) kicking environment and may even make it back to the pro bowl.
