Sorry, but here's the context. I haven't seen a remotely positive post by you OR even a neutral post from you this weekend. It's just a buzz kill this time of year for the negativity to saturate.
“Don’t forget me!” Jeremy Langford
Seems like they thought he wouldn’t have much of a market and badly miscalculated. Feels like a big mistake by Pace there...Feels like we chase our tails too much replacing lost talent rather than upgrading existing talent.
I hope you’re right, Soul. On paper, it makes no sense right now.
I can understand that. I really didn’t understand why the team made zero effort to retain Jones.
He sounds like a pure STs type of pick. That would be fine in the 7th or even 6th. Little hard to figure in the mid-4th where you still got a shot to find a rotational contributor or even an occasional starter. This guy is our 4th ILB at most. Really tough to justify. We just upgraded Timu...maybe. That’s it.
Hard to defend this pick.
Just please DRAFT AN EDGE RUSHER. I really don’t think that’s asking too much at this point.
I do too. Which is why Ryan Pace should shut up and not speculate on these matters.
Can we stop trying to pound square pegs into round holes please?
Cody can’t seem to snap for shit anyway.
Holy Freakin’ Shit, I certainly hope so! Cuz right now, Soul, YOU are 3rd on the Bears depth chart at OLB. Its a a pretty pathetic group at this point.
Not really understanding at all why we are moving his position.
For a 3rd string WR? You might not think it’s a deal next year when we will be wishing we had that 2nd round pick back.
Ryan Pace seems to place strangely high value on lower value positions.
"Offensive quality control coach Brian Ginn played a role in the Bears’ evaluation of Nichols. He coached quarterbacks, receivers and tight ends at Delaware — which also is coach Matt Nagy’s alma mater — before joining the Bears this year.
“Coach Ginn, he’s an awesome guy,” Nichols said. “He was one of the guys who helped recruit me at Delaware. Unbelievable guy. Great guy. Me and coach Ginn have a great relationship.”
In his annual draft guide, CBS Sports’ Dane Brugler said that Nichols “looked natural as a two-gapper, flashing the power, anchor and instincts to stack, shed and make plays on inside runs.” Brugler and NFL.com’s draft evaluation of Nichols also highlighted his non-stop motor on plays.
“I’m willing to do anything for the team,” Nichols said. “Wherever they’d love to put me, I’ll be more than happy to play.”

Wow, it’s a little strange that you’re collecting my posts...
Yeah, I thought the 4th round pick was a pretty odd choice. Yes, it’s also very strange that Pace hasn’t added a single prospect to the OLB pool. Those are hardly outlier opinions.
I do like Miller as a player, a lot. But we gave up next years 2nd to get him and the Packers picked up an extra 2019 1st. It’s a gamble I hope pans out. We need to gain ground on GB as I’m tired of being their doormat.
Whitehair has has had plenty of bad snaps. Lots. It’s not a stretch to think he might be better G than C.
The stuff about Langford and Soul suiting up as an OLB were clearly jokes.
Overall, I like our offseason and think the O will be much improved. I am concerned about our pass rush though as we face 3 pretty good QBs 6 times every year in division. And we need to be able to win the division to be a legit deep run threat. I apologize if I offended you but I think this board would be a pretty dull place if all people posted were koolaid drinking homerism stuff. This team still has real deficiencies on the edge. Right now our starters are Floyd, who’s had injury issues, and Lynch, who’s trying to restart his career after 2 straight down seasons. That’s pretty much all we have.

I'm gonna drop it. The only thing worse than complaining is someone who complains about complainers. I wanted to raise the point. As you said, it would be boring here if everyone posted positive notes. I like balance. I also follow football because it's entertainment to me. I want to be entertained not depressed or angry.
Moving on... We have Irving, Acho, Floyd and Lynch. Acho just signed a two year deal with the Bears. I think Fangio and Pace really like the role Acho plays on the defense and are happy with him in there. He's not an imposing force off the edge but he can do a little bit of everything and he executes. He's not a flash player but he's a solid player than can be relied on. Isaiah Irving and Howard Jones are both on the roster too. While Irving didn't make a difference his first year with the team, it's possible Fangio feels good about his upside. Remember, he's around these guys a lot and has an idea of their strengths, progress, and weaknesses. I don't think it's far fetched to believe that Fangio likes what he sees in Irving and Jones MORE than what he sees from this weak class of EDGE guys.
I'd also draw attention to San Frans EDGE guys when Fangio was their DC. Aldon Smith was his stud rusher but outside of that it was Ahmad Brooks (and after Smith left it was just Brooks). Fangio seems to put more value on top tier ILBs and defensive lineman rather than his OLB/EDGE guys. In looking back at all the stops in Fangio's career as a DC (Houston, Indy, Carolina and San Fran) the only noteworthy OLBs in his 3-4 scheme were Aldon Smith, Lamar Lathon, and Kevin Greene.
I enjoy talking about all of the changes the Bears have made since the season ended. And I'm feeling pretty good about the team overall. It will be incredible to see the regular season games begin. I figure we won't really KNOW anything until we see the entire team perform. You would think that with all of the changes, and added young people, that the team will improve throughout the season... but only time will tell.

I was just gonna bring this up myself. I don't recall Fangio ever having a wealth of double digit sack guys. Smith was his "big dog" for a bit which certainly Floyd could be seen as taking on that role but it seems the rest of the rush came from the DL at times and was spread around between other players with no one actually dominating all of the time.
If we can line up two or three DL who can create pressure and collapse a pocket as Goldman and Hicks can, AND we have a least one guy on the edge who can cause some grief, then it becomes all about the scheme and where the rush may be coming from. We got sacks from most all of the LBs last year and Fangio also likes to blitz a Safety or Slot CB sometimes.
Maybe we're just looking at this to traditionally in terms of whose expected to be a stud pass rusher vs it being more of a scheme driven effort where we succeed more via stealth by keeping the opposing OL off guard about who'll be the rushers and whose dropping into coverage. I mean that is one of the advantages of a 3-4 over a base 4-3 on passing downs.
My guess would be he starts out as Hicks backup while Bullard and RRH get the shot to show their worth starting opposite Hicks. But if they don't, and this guy impresses I could see him as Unriens replacement.
It was a great signing, one of the true big 5 techs in this draft that fit what Fangio has wanted.

Barring anymore signings to include UDFA's, remaining FA's, and cuts during the remainder of the offseason I think tneh are done and will proceed this way. I have not seen a backup NT iddntified het unless they think Nichols can spot Goldman on some snaps to rest.

If Jenkins makes the final roster he is a true NT.
