Wow, maybe he'll be our new Big Cat. Any info on his arm length out of pure curiosity?
He could turn into something, but my guess is he'll be used for depth right now. It would be a huge get if he were to turn into a OG version of Big Cat.
Maybe as other have said Hiestand see a diamond in the rough. At this very early point I do not see any progress until next camp at least. He will need a minimum of one season to learn Oline basics. If you draft Nelson you can see if you can groom Coward to be the swing guard. Our NT depth just took a hit.
+1 Having Harry Hiestand as our OL coach is a pricelessly valuable asset. This is why I am not thinking "draft this guy, or that guy" because we can't "see" these players as Harry sees them. This guy is the best in the business.

The right coaches are incredibly important.
It means everything to a franchise. Crap coaches with the best talent in the world will fail. Having coaches who can "see" a young player's ceiling - and develop the guy to reach his full potential - is a priceless commodity to have. I know it's football 101 stuff, but without coaches who can do this, you can have the most brilliant "game day" coach but still have a last place team if the player eval and development component is not there. Gotta have the full package. And I'm sure hoping we do now.

Crap coaches w/the best talent can win, but you need A LOT of the best talent, see Lovie Smith and Switzer. What really tends to happen is they cannot constantly find the best talent for their system, so as all that talent ages/leaves they are unable to replace them.

Crap coaches tend to not be able to identify talent. So with a crap coach, you may start with a lot of talent over they years, but the level of talent will regress. So a crap coach with a ton of talent is usually a short lived situation. On the other hand, great coaches may start with crappy players, but either through weeding them out or developing them, they end up with a talented roster over time. That is why they are the precursor to good players.

Maybe if they move him to OT but this is where they moved him as per Biggs Tweet. Anyone else getting a feeling Pace is really trying hard to avoid drafting Nelson?
Rashaad Coward has been converted from defensive lineman to guard this offseason.

Not hard enough. All he had to do was not release Sitton.
Actually, I don't see that. I think Dr. H (not the hemorrhoid guy) saw something that he felt would work as a G. And he was not a huge loss to the D, so he is experimenting. You could be right, but honestly, that is not one of the first things that went through my mind. And lots of people have tried shooting things through my mind.

Yes, I am as well. I think Fangio is cashing in his chips and wants those 1st 2 draft picks.

90s Dallas is a perfect example of this. A cheap coach can get by for a few years off someone else's work(jimmy Johnson) but eventually it all goes to shit, especially with a shit owner/gm.
