Now that Washington has traded Su'a Cravens to the Broncos, I think it's safe to say that Denver will choose Chubb over Fitzpatrick. Minkah is a hybrid DB who could also play LB (just like Cravens or Deone Bucannon), so I don't see why Elway would pick him.

I saw that too but Fitz is more of a FS type so I wouldn't rule him out just yet and then there's also Denzel Ward. He still needs to replace Talib. But if Chubb is there and he doesn't want a QB I dunno if he'd pass on him for a DB or an OG.

I love me some Fitz! As I said...I've watched this kid since he was a freshman in high school...dynamic...dynamic athlete! He was a pretty good QB in high school too. I wouldn't complain if we took Nelson...but I think the defense could be pretty special with a guy like Fitz or James added to it as well. Whatever team gets Fitz though is getting a hell of a player and a guy you can do a lot with.

Just out of curiosity, what position would you let Fitz play and who would end up being replaced? As of today the starting lineup in the backfield consists of:
CBs: Fuller, Prince NB: Callahan FS: Amos SS: Jackson

I'd say Callahan....and then in real obvious passing situations you can replace Amos with Fitz and bring in Callahan or whoever the third corner will be. You could also play games with Fitz and Amos on the field at the same time where Amos rolls up and can rush or play like a LB and Fitz drops into safety coverage...so on and so forth.

Quality starters AND depth in our secondary. What a novel approach. How long since we've seen that and an era when Safeties were and afterthought not to be drafted before the 5th or 6th round.
If by chance 4 QB go before us AND Chubb and Barkley there's a reasonable chance Fitz will be there along with Nelson and Edmunds. I'd say that depends somewhat on whether Ward ranks higher than Fitz on someones board.
Be nice if we could trade our next two first round picks and take all three huh?
I think it may be a stretch to see four QBs go as opposed the three but again even if only three go plus Chubb and Barkely out of the four left; Fitz, Nelson, Ward, and Edmunds two would still be on the board a #8 and James as well.
I might favor Nelson for my pick if only because of how I've seen him absolutely destroy DTs and DEs and I have visions of Howard and Cohen running behind him Long and Whitehair but I have to be honest and say if it ends up being Fitz or Edmunds I won't be disappointed either. I'd love to be one spot higher than we are but #8 will still get us a top 5 guy.

Yeah, I think if that were the case Nelson would end up being the pick because you could make the argument he's the BPA, and he fills a need....BUT, I wouldn't complain if we ended up with Fitz/Edmunds/James/Smith.
I'd probably say just the reverse. LG is the more glaring need. It's the elephant in the room only most are acknowledging this one and more media and mocks are seeking Nelson as the Bears more likely pick followed by Edmunds.
Having stabilized the secondary Fitz is a little bit less of a raw need although if both he and Nelson were still on the board at #8 it would be a tough choice. That said I don't think both will be. Fitz will be taken ahead of Nelson for the reasons you listed. If he's still on the board at #7 I can't imagine TB passing on him for anyone else but Chubb or Barkley neither of whom I expect to last that long.
IMO, the real elephant in the room is that the only reason we have a dire need at G is due to our own actions. We would have more flexibility in the draft had we kept Sitton.
That's true, BIH. Only problem is he was due a roster bonus had we kept him so that would have been wasted cap if they later decided to move in a different direction.
Ryan Pace has been masterful thus far this offseason. And I say that as someone who was fed up and ready to get rid of him last December so that's not idle praise. I think he did a terrific job assembling the coaching staff and acquiring new talent in FA. My only criticisms, and they are admittedly minor ones, lie in letting Sitton and Jones go. One was an aging but still effective starter and the other was a young ascending player who provided solid depth at 2 LB positions and was a good STer. Pace has to fill those holes somehow (and of course nail this draft) to make it an A+ offseason IMHO.
