Looking over Hoyer's lifetime stats I don't know that I'd call him "horrible". With exception of the 2015 regular season he's been no more than pedestrian and very average although in prior stops in AZ and Cleveland he played on some pretty horrible teams. Overall we should be no worse off than we were with McCown before he pulled off those miracle stats in 2013. Prior to that he was certainly no better than Hoyer as far as a prospect for a #2 QB spot.
We have lots of spare CBs with little or no experience so one or two of them need to step up and prove they're ready to start. My guess is Fuller will be out longer than currently advertised. Cromartie is off the market now but Keenan Lewis is another injury prone vet recently cut by NOLA whose looking to a team to give him a shot. Pace may or may not kick his tires. Let's face it. Without a better pass rush it won't make any difference whose playing CB.
IMHO we have ample depth and talent at both WR and TE. The only real question now is whose gonna step up and own those backup spots and how many of each will we keep?
Might be why you like Cutler so much....I KEEED! His stats might not be, but his actual play is. It's why the Browns and Houston let him walk and why Den, SF and the Jets(all far more qb needy this offseason) didn't even look at him.
Throwing shit at a wall can work, but probably not the best way to do it if you are wanting to make a playoff run. And it sounds like another one of those young CB's is dinged up.

Like all of us sometimes I'm forced to like who we've got. I've never seen Hoyer as being any more than a Josh McCown level guy whose basically a career #2 who you hope can at least keep you in contention for a game or two if your starter is out. If you have to use him more than that I think you'll be very lucky to win more than half those game if that.
The Bears signed him pretty quickly after the draft and I'm not sure anyone else really wanted him either. Denver had opted for Sanchez over Hoyer which made sense. SF already has a #2 depending on who starts, and the Jets wanted Fitz back and also have a major investment in Geno Smith. All of those teams were either looking for a starter or like SF they were set. Hoyer isn't a starting caliber guy for anyone who isn't desperate for a QB.
Until we can get a prospect with the upside to become a starter in the pipeline we pretty much destined to get stuck with guys like Hoyer and McCown and Campbell and others we've tried. I think that day will come now sooner than later. The handwriting is on the wall as far as drafting one who can sit for two or three years then hopefully take over without a hitch.
