Dolphins set to sign Bears' FA target Albert Wilson

The Miami Dolphins are expected to sign Kansas City Chiefs free-agent wide receiver Albert Wilson to a three-year, $24 million deal once the new league year begins, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
Wilson has long been connected to the Bears as a likely free-agent target. It was even assumed by Chiefs GM Brett Veach at the NFL Combine in February that Wilson would follow coach Matt Nagy to the Bears.
Instead, the 25-year-old is headed to South Beach where he’ll help offset the lost production from the Jarvis Landry trade.
The Bears, who agreed to terms with Allen Robinson on Tuesday, are still in play for more pass-catchers in free agency, but their focus may turn to the defensive side of the ball where a starting cornerback opposite Kyle Fuller — assuming he returns — is still a need.
As reported yesterday Wilson is Miami bound. For $24 mil/3 years I'd have had to pass too. I think that's a little rich for him so on the Plan B here too. Wondering if Trey Burton may be next?
If signing Wilson meant we wouldn't be able to spend on Burton I'd rather have Burton. Lemming just tweeted it, and I agree...Bears should turn their attention to Taylor Gabriel for a slot option that can blow the roof off a defense.

I would as well. TE is a big part of Nagy passing game and we need a replacement for Zach Miller.
There are other slot guys out there it's mainly Wilson's familiarity with Nagy's offense that made him first choice. We could decide to bring Wright back for a year, there's the draft, and I have to wonder whether they may keep Wheaton around to compete for the slot job. He has some serious speed as well.

Yeah...there are options there for sure. It's why I'm not really upset about it. Taylor Gabriel is a guy I like who to me is very similar to Wilson...but he's faster. Can do a lot of things with him...amazingly the guy had over 600 yards receiving with the Browns of all teams his rookie year.
I think Kendall Wright can still be that WR3 / slot receiver. He played well last year considering who he was paired up with. If Pace can get him a reasonable extension and hold him down, I think Nagy can make that work. I also think, as I posted elsewhere, this is a draft that is deep with those WR3 type guys. There aren't any / many clear WR1s in the draft but we should be able to get a good WR in the 4th round.
