Decided to see what sort of impact Rusty actually had. It appears Football Outsiders started their AGL stats in 2008 so that's as far back as I could go despite Rusty starting with the Bears in 2005. He retired in January 2013 so the 2012 season was his last year essentially. Not bad looking at all. Not lower than 19th during those last few years. Top 10 three times. Pretty dramatic decline after his retirement. Come back Rusty!
yeah... there will always be ups and downs, but overall, it was impressive. I saw some good stuff from the Eagles also. That's why I made the comment about wishing we had raided them. Of course, when you are the Chicago Bears, I'm sure it's a lot easier to get someone from the Browns to come here than it is from the SB champs.
This guy seems like he made a positive impact at Washington. He seems to be a good hire, but again, wondering if Butkus knows anything about him.

PULLMAN – Head Washington State strength and conditioning coach Jason Loscalzo has reportedly taken a job with the NFL’s Chicago Bears, a source close to the program told The Spokesman-Review. The news was first reported by FootballScoop.com.
Loscalzo, who’s been with the Cougars since Mike Leach’s first season in Pullman, will work in the same capacity with the Bears. Loscalzo replaces former Chicago strength coach Jason George, who was informed last month by the club he wouldn’t be returning for a fourth season.
The sixth-year WSU assistant has overseen all aspects of the development, coordination, implementation and supervision of the strength and conditioning program for the Cougar football program.
During his tenure at WSU, Loscalzo was highly-regarded by players and coaches as one of the people responsible for the Cougars’ turnaround on the gridiron. Loscalzo arrived in Pullman with Leach in 2012, as the Cougars were coming off three seasons that produced just three wins.
Loscalzo’s weight program was especially instrumental in developing WSU’s offensive line and the strength coach helped the Cougars reach their first bowl game in 10 years when they qualified for the 2013 New Mexico Bowl. WSU played in the 2015 Sun Bowl, beating Miami 20-14, then earned bids to the Holiday Bowl each of the last two seasons.
Prior to his stop at WSU, Loscalzo was the director of strength and conditioning at Boston College for five seasons. The Humboldt State alum and Cool, California, native also spent four seasons at Auburn as the top assistant strength and conditioning coach. The Tigers went to four straight bowl games, including the 2005 Sugar Bowl, and finished the ’05 season with a No. 2 ranking.
Chicago is parting ways with George after an injury-riddled 2017 season that saw 16 players land on the injured reserve. A total of 21 Chicago players were on the injured reserve the season prior. Former Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Matt Nagy is entering his first season as the Bears’ head coach.
So I was interested in, not the rankings, but the agl's of that chart Papa put out. So I put in all the teams
And when you look it all over, and do the math, the average amount of games lost per team is 66 games, middle 12 teams were 60-71, top 10 were 48-57, bottom 10 were 72-99
Every team in the top 10 had at least 1 year missing at least 72 or more, and most also had at least 1 game missing 60-70. Of the bottom 10 only 1 team didn't have at least 1 year in the top of less then 60.
Since Jones left(2013) Bears have had 92, 101, and 155, which is astronomical. Cle has had 2 seasons since 2010 at that level or worse, 2010 and 2016. Cle hasn't been great, but it's hard to make any hard calls on why. 2 below average years, 1 above average years and 2 average years.
Anyone noticing a trend here, other then cle/chicago? w/these 2 charts I showed(realized it as I was looking for them). The majority of teams making the playoffs are on the left side of both charts.
BiH what are we doin here? If you were to do a chart and graph the chart from the time he started(2010-2018) would the line go up or down? If you were to do the same thing for the Bears in that same timeframe would it go up or down? No team is going to have a consistently healthy team, none, other teams are all over those charts also, NE, GB range anywhere from the bottom to the top 1/2 also.
You don't think it's potentially significant, though, that CLE had been steadily declining between 2013-2016? I know it doesn't cover Tucker's entire tenure with the Browns, and the overall trend may be upward, but his last four years (minus 2017 of course) has been going down steadily, not "all over the charts".
I don't know, see the chart I did. that sorts the teams and years by average games lost, it's not like teams have consistently great years year in year out. Tucker might not be the best, but he's a step in the right direction for the Bears; and the S&C guy they hired is apparently a huge improvement. Tucker alone maybe not enough but he and Jason L should add up to significant improvement.

I don't know how I feel about going with unproven heads in both areas of our new programs, but I do like the history of both guys and the fact that both spent long times with organizations that lasted through multiple regimes.

Rusty had a huge impact. I read somewhere in the last couple months that he set up calorie/hydration requirements for all the players along w/specific work out regiments. It would say that any soft tissue tear was b/c the player wasn't following his system for them. He actually is doing consulting work in the NFL now and I hope the Bears contact him to help w/the new staff.

I disagree with that. Every team has those same issues. Prior injuries, etc. There will be a difference as to how many previously injured players are on each team as well as significant field injuries that have nothing to do with conditioning. However, since the playing field is level for all teams, over time, those things pretty much cancel out. I think the numbers are meaningful an that they do in fact track how well our team has done in terms of training our players. You can see the numbers dropped off a cliff when Rusty left. The chart reflects that. The information that it provides does mean something. You just have to take the time to analyze it.
But Fox was a guy that didn't do any of that. Too old school. Shit happens.... and that was his approach. He's gone now. Some of it is due to his approach. JMO
