Thought KC had that one in the bad and then BOOM! Probably saved Mularkey's job.
I wouldn't be so sure on that.
55/45. LOL But McDipshit may be lured there by a shot at working with Mariotta now that Jimmy G is no more in NE. This could be a somewhat odd and predictable coaching carousel this year. What are you "ears to the rail" telling you?

Theres some validity to whats going on in NE. Patricia and McD would like to work with executives from NE, as the thought is that previous coaches from there who become HC's have gone places that don't understand their "way" and thats why they've failed. I think Schurmur would be the owners choice in NY but the GM may want Wilks...we'll see who wins out there.

Well if McDaniels failed b/c trading up for a fb/rb as your qb is the NE way then I'm not sure he'll have much success in the next job.

I would bet that the 32 year old McDaniels we saw at his 1st HC experience in Denver, will not be the same as what we will see from him now.

It makes you realize how difficult it is to build a team that can sustain winning that spans many years. It's obviously not as easy as just trying to replicate what NE is doing, and carry that to another team. Every team, and for that matter every season, is unique. There are a lot of moving parts to a super bowl winning season. It encompasses everything from ownership, scouts, front office, coaches, players and it's not just something you can write off as, "well, they've had Tom Brady... easy to win Super Bowls with him. Or flip the coin and say it's all due to Bill Belichick... that's why. Sure those two are prime factors in the equation, but it's the team they build there around those two also. JMO.

maybe but has there been one OC that has really had a great deal of success of that Billy B coaching tree? Billy B's system and a HoF QB make it really hard to judge the O coordinators under him.

Yeah I could very easily see that being an issue. It's one of the reasons I've said I don't think McDaniels is a good "fit" for the Bears. My concern would be that even if Pace was unwilling to give up roster control McDaniels might work to undermine that and usurp it anyway and then we have another big problem again.
Right now I'm think Schurmur and DeFilippo are high on Pace's list and if there is any way to keep Fangio via hiring DeFilippo I'd give him the edge. Of course Schurmur may be OK with that too but all of this goes back to whether Fangio is willing to stay or not. As of Tuesday he's free to interview again.

I totally agree, Ric. It doesn't mean either of the coordinators (Patricia or McDaniels) can't be successful head coaches though in the future for another team (well, probably not here on the Bears where HCs come to die).
But we don't know how they might do on another team. Could be fine, or could fail. And I totally agree about the Bill Belichick "system" making it difficult to predict how either of these guys will do on their own. And the Bears, from top to bottom are not the same as the New England Patriot franchise. I'm not sure any guy can come here and flourish like Bill Belichick has in NE. Probably not happening. Ever.
