That is a good point about the Pro Bowl. Unfortunately, we have no All-Pro talent either. And the All Pro team is legit. I can't remember the last time we had a legit 1st-Team All-Pro player here. We used to. But that was before we entered the Emery/Trestman/Pace/Fox era.
People will jump in here to say how we have some good players. Sure. I agree with that. I think we have a few 2nd-tier talents on this team, and that is important. You need those too. And we have a number of "good" players on the tier below that. Those guys also are important to a championship team. But when you look at the legit championship teams you also note they have true difference-maker players, those who are 1st-tier talents. Those are guys who end up 1st-team All Pro team players. I'd love to see Mitchell Trubisky become that kind of player some day - and maybe have 1 wide receiver like that too. It doesn't have to be a Jerry Rice & Joe Montana type thing... but still, it would be great to have a top-tier QB and WR tandem... LOL, one can dream :-)
I tend to believe the All Pro team is more legit than the Pro Bowl team. The 1st team All Pros are the kind of players you see as true difference makers, and 1st tier talents. That is higher than the next tier down. Championship teams have these guys. To put this into perspective in the "real world" look at last year's All Pro team. There were 2 QBs on that team - Tom Brady and Matt Ryan. Were they true "difference makers" and 1st tier? Sure. Those two teams were in the Super Bowl that year. Difference makers. Not just "really good players" and yes, there is a difference between 1st Tier, and that next tier down. The wide receivers were Julio Jones and Antonio Brown. Notice Cam Meredith (whom we idolize here) didn't get a sniff.
New England had 5 on the All Pro Team. They won the Super Bowl.
Atlanta had 4 on the All Pro Team. They played in the Super Bowl.
We haven't had a 1st Team All-Pro in awhile. That's because we don't have them. Look at that 1985 team. We had 'em then. Loaded in fact. 4 of those guys are in the Hall of Fame from that team. Talent. 1st tier talent. We beat a damned good New England team that year to win the Super Bowl. Curb stomped the New England Patriots that year to win the Super Bowl.
Maybe we do have some future All Pros on this Bears team (I hope so). Or maybe Pace can draft an elite "difference maker" too. These are the 1st tier guys who not only put a team on their back to get to the Super Bowl, but also, we have seen these kind of guys take over a Super Bowl and just "will" the team to win... we've seen this with offense and defence guys at this level. Could a Kyle Fuller, Leonard Floyd, Mitch Trubisky or Shaheen be one someday? Sure. Maybe. Maybe not.
