Really depends on the GM and coach, go back to Lovie and Angelo, Angelo and the scouts had a far larger say in the draft, Lovie and his staff had some say, but not much; it wasn't until Lovie's contract ext after the SB that he got a larger say in draft/fa. I would guess that is more the norm then you would think.
He might not be the coach he is now, but he was the pretty much the same coach when he first started in NE, and it's not like he started slow in NE.
When is started in NE is not now, after decades more of HC. Why is that a hard concept?
Oh so we should have kept Trestman around for another decade b/c he might have been better now? Again when he STARTED in NE he was more the HC he was w/Cleveland then he is now. But NE had actual talent and Cleveland still doesn't.
Only difference between what he was in Cle and what he was when he started in NE was talent

I think this is interesting, and I didn't see the game so I don't know. When the Bears beat Cincy apparently they were spreading the field, which allowed the Bears to run the ball and get off some easy completitions, Against Det apparently they went back to keeping everything bunched together and they again struggled.
Again this goes back to a staff that doesn't understand what they are doing and not putting their players in the best position to win. Been like that for a few years now.
Wait... last year, it wasn't coaching. It was talent.
Yep. Funny how that story has change over the course of another season that came out about the way I predicted it would. I should do a little research again to see just how badly injuries have impacted others yet as hurting as some are they're still making the playoffs.
Focks came in here with his "next man up" theory but apparently no one bothered to prep the next man up. Because of the inconsistency of the results I'm having a hard time evaluating the staff. Both the offense and the defense have had great games only to slide back into oblivion a week or two later.
It's like they have schemes they'd like to keep trying but Grand-master Focks comes along with his own scheme and tells them to just paint everything off white. That's good enough. I've never seen any HC try harder to plan his own demise then Focks has. It's almost like he's been sabotaging himself just so he can get out of this deal and walk away with $5 mil for taking 2019 off. And you know what? I wouldn't put that past him either.
It's either that or if GSH was still alive he'd have to make a choice between Focks and Ed McCaskey as to which one was the dumbest SOB he'd ever met.

Out of the 18 years Belichick has coached NE he's had just one losing year. His first; 5-11. And while coaching Cleveland he had a .450 winning percentage including 11-5 in 1994 when he also went one and one in the playoffs. Cleveland would be overjoyed to have had that kind of record over the last 5 years which is how long Bill coached Cleveland. Hell, we'd be happy with a .450 record over the last 5 seasons compared to what we got. So Belichick was not even a total failure in Cleveland.
Since he's coached NE he's had a .741 winning percentage including that first year at 5-11 and a nearly as good .735 winning percentage in the playoffs and Super Bowl. Now THAT is how a winning organization operates.
So.....any thinking that Belichick hasn't been reasonably successful his entire career as HC is basing their opinion on a steaming pile of this......
I think everyone understands the Bears need good talent AND good coaching, if they are ever going to get a team that can win championships. One without the other won't change much here. I have thought many times that if Tom Brady had come to the Bears instead of playing for Bill Belichik in New England, he would have had a short career and long ago been out of the NFL.
The Bears need good talent AND good coaching. Let's see what the 2018 team roster & coaching staff looks like. Hope it's all good.
JABF, glad to see you get into the spirit of the Loggains jokes.
