If the greatest special teams player in history of the NFL can't make it into the Hall of Fame, then the HOF is bogus, IMHO. He had us holding our breath in excitement - every single time he touched the football. The NFL is approaching its 100th anniversary. If a player is #1 in that span at anything, (even if it is as a STs guy), and he was so great that they had to change the rules of the game due to his play being so devastatingly good - then how on earth do you not vote him into the Hall?
His numbers should also include # of times teams refused to kick the ball to him. They would rather give it to our crappy offense on the 40 or generate a crappy punt gain. I don't think I had ever seen teams do that until Hester.
I think they should also consider that he did contribute 16 more TDs and 3300 yards receiving as well. Considering how poorly he was used as a receiver throughout his career with the Bears he still contributed.
