It was reported that he wanted out of Chicago too. He got both the $$$ and the better team to go to. Nothing wrong with that. Best of both worlds for him.
I tried really hard, for years, to ignore the fact that the problems with the franchise transcend the coach we have at any given time in our history. I stepped back and with an open mind, considered the entire body of work of this franchise going back to around 1960 (certainly post 1963). I considered the facts, and not with an emotional lens of a fan. LOL, as "fans" we often are in denial, and at times downright delusional about the Chicago Bears.
This was pretty sobering for me.
Yes, I am an optimist. I always will be in life. But I try not to be a total fool. I was very much a fool not realizing that there are systemic issues here with this business franchise that go beyond John Fox and Ryan Pace. Walk back through the past 50 or so years and review the actual history of the business since Papa Bear relinquished control. It is clear to me that we have more than a John Fox issue here. BIH is a pretty level headed poster here. I didn't agree with him about his, and others, views about Ted Philips and the McCaskeys - but in hindsight he was correct and I was wrong. Just tossing in another failed coach is not going to "fix" this franchise. As an entertainment business who provides (or tries to provide) a product to us fans that is worth our time and money, it has failed for years... pretty much since the McCaskeys took over.
I will follow the franchise moving forward and hope for the best. I am not going to be as emotionally (blindly?) attached as I once was. I think that is okay. It is my life. I can choose how to spend my time and money on entertainment. The Bears are not too entertaining and haven't been for years. We (fans) deserve better. I want better and will pursue that as I move forward. Hey, Go Bears, and hope they turn it all around. And I will certainly be cheering for them and hoping for the best. Today's game should be the best one of the year. We match up extremely well with the 49ers. We should see Trubisky have a great day, and the D should curb stomp this team. Hope so anyway :-)
EDIT: I would include one last thought to this post. When the Chicago Bears franchise begins to lose long-time, positive, fans like me, they have pretty much lost their credibility. The empty seats at Soldier Field showcase this fact. Even in the past, during bad seasons, the stadium would be at or near full. Most years anyway. Right now you can't give some tickets away. The re-sellers have tickets in the $17 to $25 dollar range now and can't move them (high school playoff games can sometimes get that kind of money). Something is happening now to this business. It's not just me who has reconsidered supporting the McCaskey's business.
