he brought in Gase and Fangio, so 2 out of 3 when he came in. most of the time, when a coordinator leaves they elevate someone in the name of the holy grail of continuity. That was his mistake. IMO, he did ok with his initial hires. But he was not worth it.
+1 Here's the deal. Coordinators are going to come and go on your team. If they suck, they get fired (hopefully) and if they are really good, they get an HC gig and leave. Consequently, the head coach himself, HAS to be a sharp guy. Belichick came from a defense background before becoming an HC, but he's one sharp O minded guy too. He is knowledgeable about the entire game, O and D. The better head coaches over the years are just football smart team-wide. Coordinators come and go, yet the brain trust is with the head man. He brings in people to be coordinators, but he's not some dimwit on one side of the ball. And to make matters worse, the Bears seem to attract HCs who are not too bright on game day too. Lovie Smith and his sock-puppet challenge flag show (I about had a stroke every time he threw that challenge flag), Trestman kicking on 2nd down, Fox challenging a play that loses a TD for our team yesterday was a corker too. Where we we FIND these guys?
We find them at the "happy to work for Teddy store." They have a certain intellect and disposition about them.

I don't agree with drafting a WR Round 1. I wouldn't mind making a splash and signing a top guy to a good contract. If you cut Freeman, you Need to replace him if you want to make the post Season.
