SO I want to understand what you are saying. You think that it had nothing to do with his not being ready. You think that he was ready but just becausee he was a rookie they limited him. I don't want to put words in your mouth, which happens way too often. Is that what you are saying, or did I twist it?I did not want to see Trubisky start the first game of the season. I was hoping he'd start at some point this season so that next season he would have had some experience. He wouldn't be starting from scratch next season, and just beginning that part of the learning curve that only begins when you start in real games. I've always believed that a part of a young QB's learning curve can't begin until he plays in real NFL games.
The "carrying the clipboard thing" only takes you so far. Watching film only takes you so far. Being a practice squad QB or scout team QB only takes you so far.
Those things are beneficial in the early part of a player's learning curve - no question. But at some point a new QB needs to learn by playing in real games. I honestly don't believe there is a magical "1st starting target game" that determines a perfect time when a rookie needs to start at QB. I figure it's a range of games where he would be okay starting his first game for us, and I feel like Trubisky starting 4 games into the season was early, but within that "reasonable" range. But maybe I'm wrong here. I just don't buy into the fact that starting say, in game 5 is going to ruin a guy and starting in game 13 is going to make him a star QB. It doesn't work that way, at least to my thinking. If the guy is that fragile, then we drafted the wrong QB.
I think we both understand each other's stance on this. I certainly believe you could be right and I could be wrong (heaven knows I'm wrong quite a bit here... probably more than I get it right). We won't know for sure about this for awhile. Oh, and one more thought. Could Trubisky get injured this year? Sure. But I figure players get injured no matter when they start... it's just the nature of the beast, playing in the NFL. So if T goes down to injury, I'm not going to blame anyone for starting him too early. I'm just gonna chalk it up to the guy got injured. It happens.
