Packers 4-3, 2 game losing streak *no rogers, coin toss Lions 3-4, 3 game losing streak *this is the lions, coin toss Eagles 7-1, 6 game win streak *likely loss 49rs 0-8, should be a win but they have a new qb so coin toss Bengals 3-4, 1 game win streak coin toss Lions again Browns 0-8 2 great def's against 2 shit O's, edge to hometeam Chicago Vikings 6-2 4 game win streak, played them close the first time but that was at home, likely a loss.
combined record, 23 wins 30 losses. Only 2 teams aren't hovering around .500 or worse.
Compared to first 8 games Falcons 4-3 L should have been a win Bucs 2-5 blown out Stealers 6-2 won Packers 4-3 blown out Vikings 6-2 close loss Ravens 4-4 won Carolina 5-3 won Saints2 5-2 close loss could have been a win Combined record 36 wins 24 losses. 4 teams hovering around .500 or worse
This 2nd half of the season is butter soft. If the Def stays healthy and McBride and Innman and Sims/Shaheen can find a way to create some help for the qb this could be a pretty good year. As it is, there's a good 3-5 wins remaining on the remaining schedule, the def and run game will keep them in just about all the games, it's just a matter of Trubs taking care of the ball and his WR's stepping up
btw, forgot to add something: first 1/2 6 qbs played against that helped their teams get to the sb. 2nd half of the season, 0 qb's being faced that have takent their teams to the sb. Wentz and Stafford are the only ones to really worry about.
I'm honestly not sure what to expect this last half of the season. I think it could go either way. Regarding this Packers game, I am with you - it's a toss up game. It certainly isn't a given that we win. There won't be ANY easy wins for this team this season.
One other thought. A team's record doesn't necessarily define how they will match up against the Bears when they play us - or us them. That "any given Sunday" saying is valid. Crazy things happen in NFL games.
The only thing I am pretty sure of, is that this particular Bears team, the 2017 version, plays with a lot of heart. If they do lose, it won't be due to a lack of effort. And have you watched John Fox on the sideline this season? I haven't seen that much emotion from a Bears head coach since Mike Ditka. LOL, I worry the old guy will have a heart attack some games :-)
Fox may, or may not be a good Bears coach. But I don't question his will to win. I don't question these players will to win either. I can't wait to see if the team can continue to improve game by game for these last 8 games. Could be fun to watch these young players develop as the season continues.

In the past, I have seen the Bears give up on Ditka, Wanny, Jaroun, Smith (the 10 - 6 in his last season was a fluke), and Trestman in their last years. I gotta say one thing about Fox, the players haven't given up on him.
i always want the bears to win, and if the bears put a bunch of wins together will consider reevaluating Fox and Co. that said, unless this O significantly improves in the 2nd half of the season I would want Pace to push for better play design at least as much as he goes after talent.
Our offense is not designed to attack defenses. An attacking offense has plays that probe defenses for weakness. our passing plays don't do this. you don't call come back routes if the CB NEVER respects the receiver's ability to go deep because you'll get no separation. if you want to attack a zone with that kind of route, you need receivers pressuring defenders in zone to leave areas of the field open. that means having a play designed to pull a safety away from the primary target.
good play design does as much for helping a QB read and react as motion, or moving the pocket. if you attack a zone by forcing someone to come up and cover Cohen in the flat and Gentry is running a fly to force CB/S to change responsibilities then something should open up for a TE in between those routes if they are all on the same side of play. if the TE is covered by the LB then Cohen is open, if the S and CB go to the TE then Gentry is the option. if the CB and S cover the TE and WR effectively and you see one getting doubled go to the other side of the field assuming no rollout as the other wr should be in single coverage. otherwise, make a safe throw (use ball height+sideline)and work the single coverages. Mitchell can make sideling throws and has shown good awareness of LBs in underneath zone coverage (his placement behind or low often getting called bad throws when they are throws away from coverage).
if instead of attacking the entire field you play as predictably as the Bears have you score less than 20 and make the defenses job much easier. you are also denying players the experience (much needed) of those attacking plays. how can you expect our receivers to convert out of no where in the last 2m of a game when they've been playing small ball the entire game?

windycity has its sack-watch feature up, but more interesting to me was the all-22 that showed the pass routes on the sacks. No pass catchers ran any blitz adjustment routes. Either they weren't schemed into the playcall or the WRs don't know how to adjust their routes based on what they are seeing. Predictable.
There was a feature I saw somewhere on how the Saints ran outs at three depts giving Brees 3 different options as he rolled to that side. The three out patterns + the guy running a seam route pressures the DEF to pick and choose. I really would like to watch an all-22 games just once.

Again, no wr's worth throwing to. Wright should know, but McBride/Gentry are 2 udfa rookies, one of which has been on the team for about 1 mo. Hard to get into the complexities w/that.
Loggins seems to run when the defense is selling out on the run and passing when he should be running (like 3 and 4th down goaline vs Saints). IDK maybe they have no faith in their young players. Maybe they are just that vanilla in their play calling.

And I'm not arguing otherwise. To me its more of a general comment on the OFF as its currently being run. Biggs or Jahns mentioned this was the first week the Bears ran plays designed to get WRs open (stacked/bunched WRs, pick plays, etc). I still can't believe that is true. Its a long list: Wright being asked to run double moves downfield and not slants using his quickness, using the FB incorrectly (according to windycity 89% of the plays he is in on its a run--but then when he's asked to play in obvious passing situations who is Loggains thinking he is fooling)..its a long list and getting longer.
One more from Windycity about Loggains on Sunday: funny playcalls.
Dowell Loggains: I believed that the overly conservative game plans were at the behest of John Fox, and I still believe that. This game, however, falls solely on the shoulders of Loggains. The game plan was balanced, which was nice to see, but the play calls were too often poorly made. I mentioned the strange usage of running backs and Kendall Wright, but there were some inexcusable play calls. On the 3rd-and-1, and 4th-and-1 calls around the 2-minute warning, those pass plays were awful. The Saints are the best team at batting down passes, and you run 0 to 1-yard routes to pick up a first down? You know you have Jordan Howard on your team, right Danger Zone? Speaking of danger zones, that is basically what the Red Zone is for the Bears right now. There are several tried and true plays inside the 10-yard line, perhaps we should try using some of those?
Yes the Bears OFF is devoid of playmakers outside of Howard (Cohan has been schemed out by opposing DEFs recently and Loggains hasn't been able to scheme him back in for some reason.) Yes Mitch is a rookie who needs help tying his shoes. But Loggains hasn't exactly helped anyone out with playcalls, personnel groupings and player-usage.

That's my thought also. Two guys who probably don't know much of anything beyond finding the correct locker in the locker room on game day... good luck having those two do much of anything. We also have the new rookie TE and the guy we just promoted off of the practice squad. And the RBs are dropping passes. Hopefully, Dontrelle Inman can get up to speed quickly. Right now Trubisky has nothing to support him. And he, himself, is a rookie. Tough sledding for sure for a rook QB.
