I would like to see the offensive play calling changed up...as many have mentioned...it's predictable. Run on 1st and second, dial up a pass on third down.
I am super-curious to see what happens after the bye week. Mitch had 4 games as a backup to watch, learn & just get his NFL bearings a bit. Then he had 4 starts against some good defenses & a beginning opportunity to get his feet wet leading an NFL team in real games. I think the bye week came at the perfect time for him. He can catch his breath a bit, and review his progress, and work on some things. He also will have Dontrelle Inman, a legit WR, to begin working with.
I don't know what to expect in his 5th game, but it could show progress. It could also show the play calling moving to a new stage with Trubisky having a bit of experience now. I know it's not a lot of experience, but he may very well be maturing a bit with his game now. I'm really excited about this Green Bay game. This is a game we have a legit shot at winning. It won't be Trubisky carrying the team, not by any means. But maybe he will be able to help the team now - at least a modest amount with the beginnings of a passing game. Can't wait to see the game :-)
But even where talent exists they aren't getting it done. WR is the only glaring issue and I don't think we know yet whether the talent is there with some of the younger players or not. Not playing in the predictable style they have been.
Let's used Fuller and Amos as an example. As short a time ago is this past summer we'd probably swear Fuller was on trading block and Amos's days as a starter were about to be over. Both appeared to lack talent. What about now? Fuller is playing lights out even in man coverage and Amos is getting All Pro type grades at SS.
Christian Jones has filled in for Freeman and Kwiatkoski so well it would be hard to take him off the field right now and Bullard is beginning to overtake Unrein whose also been playing well.
These guys all seemed to lack something at some point in time prior to this season but through better coaching and a better understanding of their roles and a scheme that's working all of a sudden we aren't talking about a defense that's lacking talent any longer.
I'm gonna stick with my thinking that we have more talent on offense than we've been able to show simply because it's poorly schemed and he play calling is so limited it's a snap to defend.
Well...we have talent at the running back position...is Howard not getting it done? I think we know what the talent level is at receiver, and it's pretty bad. Is made to look worse than it is because of the inexperience we have at the QB position? Sure. Could the play calling be part of the issue? Sure...but I'd say if we had talent there the play calling be predictable wouldn't matter as much.
Fuller was on the trading block for a multitude of factors, including his health and seeming unwillingness to play or practice last year. He had talent...remember he was named to some publications all rookie teams, and after starting his second season slow picked it up towards the end of the season. 2016 was abysmal for him because he wasn't on the field. Amos is a guy who was talented but I think we'd all agree was misused as a free safety. All the guys you mentioned didn't lack talent...they just were either being misused, or the light bulb took a while to go on.
I don't think all the coaching in the world is going to make some of these receivers into contributors. Of course I could be wrong...hopefully I am.
I don't know either but what I'm seeing is a preseason level offense and play calling. The routes called are right of out Football for Dummies Vol. 1 and the play calling is ridiculously down an distance predictable.
Howard is trying gain yardage against 8-9 in the box on nearly 50% of his carries and our passing schemes are very basic. There have been plays when I've seen guys get separation but Trubisky hasn't had time to spot them or to throw so I can't tell much about anyone or anything with them playing what looks like a HS level offense.
I'd agree that we have no #1 WR because we let him go and we have no #2 because Meredith is out. What's left are guys who will probably never be more than #3 types so that's an issue that Loggains needs to scheme around and it doesn't appear that he has or is even able to. From what I can tell no one is getting much better.
The bottom line to me is that we need far better offensive coaching and far better offense scheme than we have. Once we "fix" that I think some of these guys will bloom into decent players just as some of the defensive guys have but it's not gonna happen this year the way that offense is being run. It's just not.

Those are all really good points JABF. We'll see what this offense looks like after the bye. I'm hoping to see some sort of progression.

McBride at least showed a little bit last Sunday, and if Innman can get up to speed in two weeks thats another WR that should be someone def's have to think about besides Wright. W/out Miller Sims and Shaheen are going to have to step up. And they'll have to two weeks to work out any issues they've been having.
Howard needs to spend the next 2 weeks on the jugs machine working on catching less then perfect passes, it's his one real skill lacking besides the missing 2nd gear. But unlike that catching is something he can improve on.

We'll see JABF. There is good experience and there is bad experience.
Hopefully, they will look good after the bye. GB is nowhere near as good without Rogers. We should win. Hopefully Mitch looks good doing it.

I don't think we will see a leap of improvement though. I'm just hoping to see incremental improvement from week to week, especially with Trubisky. I suspect Green Bay will not be an easy win, even without Rodgers. I think the Bears will have their hands full with them. But this is a game I think they have a chance in.

If McBride continues to improve, and Innman is a quick study I think you'll see improvements by the last 3-4 games.

I hope so. I would be really pleased to see that improvement. I don't expect miracles this season, but I would like to see steady improvement. Then with some added roster talent, the team can build on that next season right out of the chute.
