Interesting, both of us know that doesn't mean much. I think anything could happen in this game. Could be good, or bad. I am super excited though. Even if we do win, it may be a tough fought ugly game. But I'm fine with that as long as we beat the Packers :-)
No, it doesn't but even if the scales aren't tipped in our favor at least it's a little more even in the QB dept. and we seem to have the advantage defensively plus home field advantage so I'm guessing that's where the 6 points come from. But with an offense only generating 12 points a game if that doesn't change I won't count on much of anything.
If by now Fox hasn't taken that lump of coal out of his ass he's been trying to turn into a diamond and loosen up on offense IMHO it really doesn't matter what we accomplish now. It isn't helping in the long run and that's all I care about. The "Post Fox Era". As I posted elsewhere if Elway could can him after going 12-4 his last year in Denver I sure as hell don't know why we can't even if he goes 8-8. That would still make him the second worst HC in Bears history.
That's incredible. Anything can happen in a Packers/Bears matchup. I do believe that regardless who wins, it will not be anything pretty - and certainly not a cakewalk game, but more of an ugly street fight type game. Real gut-check stuff, and maybe even butt ugly. This year's team looks like the type that could come up a winner in that type of fight. I am really really really hoping so.
Three point favorites. Basically a push with 3 points for home field advantage. GB without Rodgers is somewhat like the Bears without McMahon back in the 80s. Hundley is about what you'd expect from a mid round backup but he still managed to hang 17 points on Detroit.
I'd like to think our defense is better so I dunno. Can we score any points on offense? Maybe this ends up a scoreless tie when Barth misses a 39 FG in overtime, wide right again.
thats horrible insight. The Bears had one of the best defenses back then. GB has an all time horrible defense. We’re closer to the Browns without Rodgers. The better comparison would be: losing Rodgers is like the 85 Bears losing its defense:)

Hey PT, how they hangin'? Tough year up in the "tundra" huh?
Yeah, the impact may be that great but I was comparing it more from just the QB perspective only. Mac was what made the Bears offense work and none of his backups could pull off the same stuff. Much like Rodgers he was the Bears catalyst on offense. The Bears couldn't win another championship without him despite the defense.
But much like your claim that the '80s GB defense was on of the worst of all time this Bears offense has pretty much been the equivalent. I mean how good would you say any offense is that only averages 12 points per game? And this coming on the heels of the previous Trestman/Tucker era when we had a defense that was giving up 30 ppg on average.
It's been a double whammy of poorly coached teams under two HC who never should have been hired in the first place.
Well the one good thing that will come out of this year for us is this lays bare what most fans from every team have known for at least five years: Rodgers has not been given appropriate talent around him. I'd like to think BOTH Ted Thompson and Dom Capers will be canned after this year but it isn't going to happen. Everyone is too cozy together up there...
Fox and Fangio decide to attack the experienced QB with exotic blitzes and coverages. Fox and Loggains mix it up on OFF and move away from 80% running and first and second downs. The new WR and McBride actually are involved. Howard is used not as a battering ram but as a tool within the overall operation of an NFL OFF.
What I am afraid will happen:
Fox and Fangio will do what they have always done while facing a new or rookie QB...sit back and wait for mistakes instead of forcing the issue. Fox and Loggains will continue to emphasize not losing the game rather than taking the game away from the Packers.
The result: It will be close, within 3 points and either team will win it. Immedietely 1/2 the posters here will claim that Fox knew all along what he was doing was the way to beat GB even if the Bears lose, because the score was close, giving the Bears another tickmark in that all important catagory of 'in the close games.'
Of course only being an 'armchair coach' what the hell do I know. I reserve the right to change my mind and declare I meant the exact opposite when challenged later like everyone else around here.
I'll say it again here. If the Bears lose this Sunday then Fox should be fired on Monday. His excuses will have run out.
I'll go even further, win or lose, if after the bye week the OFF is still run-run-pass oriented, I'd fire Fox and promote Fangio to HC. But I wouldn't have hired him in the first place.

I don't think he will be fired mid-season. I'm not certain they will fire him at the end of the season. He could be back next year. I'm not saying he should be back, but he very well could be. A lot depends upon what the team does in these final 8 games. I am really curious to watch how this all plays out.
I’m on the outside looking in here but... What is all this firing talk? Your team is rebuilding with a rookie quarterback. The NFL today is about who has the better quarterback each week in most cases. Your coach is an experienced guy with a history of success. Why be so quick to pull the plug again?
