If we don't have a pass rusher fall to us in this next draft I would not be shocked to see Pace draft the OG from ND, Quinton Nelson. WRs are important but so is protection for Trubisky and blocking for Howard. Without a great OL that offense goes nowhere.
And many years there are really good WRs available in free agency. I'd love to see Pace pony up the money for a solid veteran, and then maybe draft a WR in the 2nd or 3rd round or so. Both. I'll be honest. As much as I like Meredith, there is no way I see him as a great #1 WR option. I just don't. Maybe a #2 or #3.

That’s the plan I hope he follows too. There’s rarely a good reason to draft a WR high up in the 1st round. As you point out, quality WRs are available by trade and FA every year (that’s how we got Marshall, Hilton & Landry both being shopped this year). And you can often find good ones in the draft past, sometimes well past, the 1st round.
Add one quality vet in FA and then draft another no sooner than round 2. That plus Meredith, Inman, Wright and whatever White can provide should be adequate. 1st round is for a pass rusher.
I don't think you can draft a OF in the top 10 without losing huge value. I rather focus that on the tackle position.
What's an OF? Did you mean OG? If so Nelson is actually the highest ranked OL right now. Higher than any of the OT and we should also note that college OTs are struggling to adapt to NFL blocking schemes and beginning to drop back in the rankings because of that.

I think we can forget about the old formulas for drafting and look at the current ones. RBs are rising in the draft again as are interior OL. In the case of the Bears they've long since focused on pass protection from their OGs and OC as much or more than the OTs or Pace would not have jumped on Sitton as fast as he did when he became available.

This has been my thinking as well. I'm still in favor of the bigger body taller WRs who go at least 6'2" and 210lbs or more as the mainstays. Guys who can haul in those back shoulder throws and go up and high point the ball against shorter DBs like AJ could. These guys are also key blockers in the run game.
Interestingly enough one mock draft had us taking Dante Pettis in round two. I see this kid as being similar to the Texans Will Fuller and kid we could play both outside or in the slot. He's a kid to keep an eye on in the post season and after.
I hope we are able to get an edge guy in round one. The kid from LSU should be someone to watch. They list him at 238lbs here but on other sites he's listed at 255-265lbs so he's more of the power rusher type like McPhee and Young and less the pure speed rusher like Floyd. He's also been in a few early mocks.
The Chicago Bears made the move to Mitchell Trubisky under center a few weeks ago, and with that, there are going to be some growing pains. Trubisky has struggled at times to complete passes, but you can see the potential that he is going to bring to the organization. His teammates also seem to love him, which is something you never saw when Jay Cutler was playing the quarterback position in the Windy City.
While they spent their first-round pick on the offensive side of the ball last April, they should look to bring in a talented player on the other side this spring. That player would be Arden Key, who is the most explosive edge rusher in this draft class. Key has the ability to literally move offensive lineman at the collegiate level, and all signs point to him being an excellent player at the next level.
The Bears defense has come to play this season, and they have been especially good at home. Bringing in a player with Key’s skill set would make them even more dangerous against the pass, which you need to be in an NFC North that features Matthew Stafford and Aaron Rodgers. The Bears could be a contender for the division in a couple of years, and having leadership like Trubisky and Key could accelerate their growth as an organization.

Kinda depends on how many QBs go and if the OTs make it into the top ten. Key and Landry are the two top guys now. Landry is more the smaller Von Miller type and Key more bigger power guy. If we're replacing McPhee and Young he's more of what we need but it's way too early to tell. Just a guy to follow.

Yes, simple grammar mistake on a keyboard.
I be some what fine with an OG as long as he's replacing one. Long is here stay, outside of that ankle injury he's only missed 1 game. I believe Whitehair is the future Guard as well, I don't see him being a great fit for center after how horrible he's been playing. Remember we drafted Whitehair to replace Slauson. Sitton is the only one but I still believe Whitehair will take over when he retires.
Let's not forget Pace only went after Sitton do to Grazu going down and having a BIG hole on the offensive line.
Drafting a guard this high is like drafting a safety at #3. It just doesn't happen.

Given as well as Whitehair played last season I'm not convinced he's gonna keep having issues. From what I've seen of Grasu so far he's not outplayed Whitehair either and we will have Kush back next year as another OG/OC guy whereas Grasu is OC only so he may be gone.
I'm also not convince that Long may not end up at RT by next season and while I feel Sitton will still have value in 2018 or they may have traded him now when teams asked about him next year will likely be his last. I think we have to look at an OL as a possibility in round one but who and where are still pretty up in the air right now.
All I was saying is that OT are not necessarily gonna always out rank other OL if only because quite a few who've played in spread offenses in college have struggled to adapt to the NFL. But only some, not all.
