Everything about the Bears’ franchise changed on the first night of the draft when they selected North Carolina quarterback Mitch Trubisky second overall. But the Monday after, quarterbacks coach Dave Ragone listened to what quarterback Mike Glennon was discussing — and how he was discussing it — and was impressed.
“We were in the classroom, and Mike was asking questions about [pass] protection,” Ragone said. “It was as professional as you could imagine.”
Nothing is worth monitoring more than the Glennon-Trubisky dynamic — Glennon as the starter, Trubisky as the young gun to be developed — and the Bears might have the right people in place to keep that dynamic positive and productive. Here’s a look at their thought process and goals:......
This was a good read as well, loggains has a lot of experience at dealing with this situation in ten and cle and has seen it work and not work. Sounds like he has a plan.
Also sounds like their plan was to get glennon and trubs bc both had experience dealing with this situation and both handled itnthe right way. Glad that both are communicating even if only via txt and in the qb room.
I also wondet if this is why it was trub or nothing for the bears. I doubt kizer would have, after how nd went down last year, would have been so willing. Maybe watson/mahommes either. Although i doubt after he said he had some cutler in him the bears were anxious to go aftet him anyways.
In the two weeks after he was selected as the surprise No. 2 draft pick, Mitch Trubisky took the Bears’ playbook and condensed it into 3×5 cards to teach himself formations and phrasing.
“Just hours on hours,” he said. “I pretty much don’t stop studying until I feel comfortable. And then I go to bed, wake up and do it again.”
He got to show his work for the first time Friday.
After meetings Thursday and a short gathering Friday morning, Trubisky took the field at Halas Hall to lead the offense at rookie minicamp.
“When I’m out there, they want to see me run the show,” Trubisky said. “So it’s controlling the huddle, controlling the line of scrimmage, knowing my job and just executing it to a ‘T.’
This is what we need out of our qbs especially a rookie. Keep your nose in the books, or note cards, even if you know you arent suposed to start this year. Again i go back to orton who really didnt put in the proper work his softmore year after he found out he wouldnt get a shot to start...it wasnt until griese got with him that he really started to get his head on right. Glad trubs doesnt really need that so far.
....Trubisky at least looked the part of a talented quarterback prospect as he took the bulk of practice reps. Throwing to a group of receivers composed of nine tryout players, three college free agents and second-round tight end Adam Shaheen, his passes generally were accurate and on time.
Trubisky took most of his reps from under center, which is an important component of his NFL transition after playing almost exclusively in the shotgun at North Carolina.
"I came out here, had a lot of fun," Trubisky said. "Just getting with the new centers, getting that rhythm, getting that timing and chemistry. It's all about getting better every day."...
Loved hearing that he wad getting the throws out on time and placed where the target could get extra yards. Loved hearing his one int was bc the wr broke wrong. 17 of 21 even with no rush is still good. A couple bobbled snaps are to be expected also. Just heard a guy on thw score say there was at least one question about one of those bobbles being on tbe guy handing the ball to trubs also.
Where it stands: Mitchell Trubisky is their guy for the long term. So say all those picks they used to move up from No. 3 to No. 2 in the draft to get him. But as is the case with all the quarterbacks in this year's draft, Trubisky probably isn't ready to start right now. Fortunately, the Bears spent handsomely in free agency to sign former Bucs backup Mike Glennon, who's left wondering if he's the Matt Flynn to Trubisky's Russell Wilson in this whole equation. With Chicago not quite as "win now" ready as the 2012 Seahawks were, it's probably not that cut and dried. Mark Sanchez and Connor Shaw are the other two options on the depth chart, and it's likely one sticks as a backup if Trubisky doesn't show enough progress this summer to be at least the backup.
Most likely to start Week 1: Glennon. He's making a guaranteed $16 million this season, and $2.5 million of his 2018 money is fully guaranteed as well, so it's not as if he's going anywhere. The writing might be on the wall, but there's no reason to not to run him out there first if he's healthy.
Most likely to lead team in 2017 starts: Trubisky. The pressure to play him will be intense, and Glennon doesn't have enough around him to succeed in enough of a way to hold off the rookie. The Bears' rebuild will begin earlier than the current coaching staff might like it to, and depending on how this year goes, it might be another coaching staff that has to continue it.
I dont think trubs gets more starts unless the wheels fall off bc of injuries. Also bc i think glennon will actually pmay fairly well.

All early indications on Glennon have been very positive. Let's see how he does in terms of winning games. That's where he has not delivered in the past.

Mullin--JUST DAY 1 OF MINICAMP, BUT DID BEARS COACHES SEE WHAT THEY NEEDED TO FROM QB MITCH TRUBISKY?
Random (and not-so-random) thoughts on the new kid running the Bears’ huddle on Friday…

John Fox is rarely given to strong positives, let alone superlatives, over his two seasons as Bears coach – which made his take on rookie quarterback Mitch Trubisky after just one no-pads, no-contact, limited-work practice at least a little worth noting.

“I think we put a lot of work into the evaluation and again saw a lot of the reasons why we decided to pick him where we did today,” Fox said after Friday’s opening practice for the Bears’ weekend rookie minicamp. “He’s very accurate, very smart, he’s got good football character, as far as transferring things from the meeting room to the field. And I think we saw that today.”
Interesting:
Two AFC scouts revealed that they had the highest grade on Trubisky that they’d had on any quarterback over the past six years. That means: higher than Jameis Winston; higher than Marcus Mariota; higher than Cam Newton; higher than Russell Wilson; higher than Andrew Luck; higher than Derek Carr; higher than Carson Wentz.
The evaluation of one NFC regional scouting team was that “Trubisky is an almost perfect quarterback prospect” and that 'the Bears should count their lucky stars he only started 13 games because if he was a two-year starter, he goes 1/1 [overall No. 1] without hesitation.”
So you can see why the Bears were looking at him and only him, along w/his ability to be okay w/sitting and learning. Kid has oodles of talent according to pro scouts. And while their grades don't actually match that of nfl.com's grade on him, they aren't really that far off either, he was right there w/the past QB's taken high in the first. No other QB in this draft had that kind of grade. But hey the Bears got fleeced b/c they traded a few mid round picks.
“We're having two 7-on-7 [passing sessions], so he's getting more reps that way,” Loggains said. “We gave him a big install, and he handled it. We wanted him to feel stressed a little bit and understand how different the game is and to this point right now he's responded well… .
“The expectations for him is to come in and develop as fast as possible. He gets a great opportunity to sit behind Mike Glennon; the guy’s a pro. [Trubisky] gets a chance to learn and grow in the system. Those are the only expectations, that he gets better every day.”
Like hearing this also. Great to hear he can process heavy amount of information quickly(he's only had 2 weeks).
**corect link Fixed it for ya bud, sorry was driving me nuts **
....One could argue there will be players more valuable to the Bears next season, but none are more important than Trubisky, the No. 2 overall pick who represents so much to so many. Belief quickly has spread that the Bears can't possibly consider playing Trubisky in the present without risking his future development. Blame groupthink, which can be tougher to escape in Chicago sports than rush-hour traffic.
Step back and ask yourself: If Trubisky clearly establishes himself as the most talented quarterback in training camp, why should the Bears limit his growth? If the Eagles could change their plan for quarterback Carson Wentz, the No. 2 overall pick in 2016 who started 16 games as a rookie after entering training camp No. 3 on the depth chart, why can't the Bears leave open the possibility of changing theirs for Trubisky?....
I disagree w/this idea that the Philly/Chicago are in the same situation as Wentz. Foles has little to no upside and has shown that in his previous chances to start/play. Glennon still has a high ceiling, and hasn't had a legit shot to start. The idea that it doesn't matter how little playing time in college the 2 rookies had is also a false narrative. Wentz was almost a full year further along then Trubs, and Wentz went on to struggle after a fast start, Trubs still needs to learn to take snaps from center.
If Trubs shows to be the best qb then he'll be the starter, but I don't think that you'll see that this offseason, he's way to raw to really win the job outright unless Glennon is really terrible which is a worst case scenerio.

Fixed it for ya
Thanks. Noted that the team is supposed to carry Glennon when he is their QB. Hope this team can do that or I suppose we'll get more of the same. Thanks

Most rookie/young QB's need their team to carry them, see 99% of every rookie/young qb in the history of nfl rookie qb's. Especially the ones on historically bad teams, ie tampa, cle, nj chi
