I like the signing. Ya' gotta figure the guy is at least as good as anyone we could have drafted in the 3rd round so I'd call this a make up signing and I give Pace credit for knowing he had to upgrade from Unrein and bring in a real challenge for Bullard to compete against. Howard should be able to win the third starting spot.
Exactly correct, I think they will only get 3.75 back if he hits all incentives.
I suspect roster bonuses for games played & incentives like sack number or forced fumble could be part of it.
I'd imagine. Usually contracts are broken up into Bonuses Likely to be Received, and those that aren't. So perhaps KC will automatically get the amount of the likely to be received bonuses?

I am just speculating on this ... Could Pace have structure the one year "prove it" deal with a lot of bonuses to get Howard for very little money as KC is on the hook for $2.5 million this year? According to what's posted by OTC, Howard was due $2.5 million this year if on the KC roster at the beginning of the league year (4:00 PM March 9). KC released Howard on April 22.

Thats what I'm thinking. It works for Howard because either way he's getting paid. I'm interested to see if any articles come out about the topic.

And if Howard is healthy and has a productive year, his total pay this year (including KC's $2.5 mill) could be something like $6 mill or $7 mill. Pretty decent pay for a 3-4 DE.
