I will say this, If Pace was his determined to draft Trub, they shouldn't have had Glennon in such a public forum.
And I agree, Pace and Fox need to rebuild that bridge and let him know that he'll have every shot this year, and maybe next year for the starting job depending on how he plays this year. And if the need arises they'll work w/him to find a team that does need him, or release him(ala TJ when Benson was drafted).
I like what Pace did, aggressively attacking the QB situation, he now has 2 shots to find a franchise qb. But it was a shitty thing to do to Glennon, who had other options at a starting job on teams that would have not gone out of their way to hedge their bets so publicly.
While he may have had other options, it seems none were willing to give him 18.5 guaranteed million reasons to sign with them. I think for a one year audition if it becomes that he will be fine, or should be. A lot of coin soothes the savage QB beast, lol.
I think he would have taken 2-3 years of knowing he was the guaranteed starter over an extra 5-10 mil.
Glennon has at minimum one year to show the league what he's got. He was doomed to be a perpetual backup QB in Tampa. He wants to be a starter. Pace and the Bears are going to give him that chance here. I don't know what was said, implied, not said, etc between Glennon and the Bears in their negotiations. But my guess is the Bears indicated that Glennon would be the starter next year. And likely nothing beyond that.
Glennon's future is in his own hands. If he plays well this year he will be a starter in the 2018 season. He will either be a starter here in 2018 if Trubisky isn't ready or he will be a starter elsewhere if Trubisly is ready to go next year. I don't see Pace paying $12 million for a backup QB. Besides Pace would love to be able to trade a starter quality QB for the picks he would get in return.
I think that is likely the case. But I'm certain after what happened in TB he's feeling like that 2 years was just cut in half. TBH I think he still has that chance if he plays well depending on how Trub develops. I'm betting Pace is hoping for a 2 year redshirt for Trub ala Rogers in GB before he gets a legit shot; but that depends on how Glennon plays.
I really doubt Glennon came here knowing he's going to be our franchise QB for the next 10+ years. The contract he got should prove that much. Its in his best interest to do as good as he can do to help his future chance. I'm all for him doing the best he can do as well.
Hopefully by next year we could trade him for a 1st round pick similar to what the Eagles did with Bradford.

Yup, it seems teams needs starting QB's every year. Like has been said Pace is just going about this the best way possible by having 2 possible QB solutions for this year and beyond if Trubisky is not ready in 2018. If Glennon works hard and does start for 2 years then he banks the 2018 money as well and may have a really good shot at a fulltime starters gig somewhere else in 2019 and beyone.
Look...Pace said Glennon is the starter this year. The money he's got guaranteed to him this virtually assures him that unless Trib lights it up in camp and Glennon sucks...ala Seattle. Glennon should have known, like the rest of America did that his contract didn't assure him of anything past this year so his level of butthurtedness should be at a minimum. Pace and Fox don't have to do a damn thing...this is the NFL...if you don't want to compete for your job every day you're in the wrong business.

There is no guarantee that T will be who we hope he will be. Glennon just needs to play his tail off. If T does not play well and Glennon does, I would be upset if we kept the inferior player because he was the #2 pick. I don;t expect it to work out that way, but it sure could. He just needs to get in there and play as best he can.

Exactly. Put your big boy pants on, Glennon, and win the job.
Do your talking on the field. Otherwise STFU.
Pace was wise to give himself options when he had the chance. Most QBs fail so can you really blame him for wanting 2 chances instead of just 1?
Biggs was talking about this just now on the score. And he mentioned there is the business element, ya he's getting 18mil and it's his job to lose this year; then there is the human element where they had him at HH at a public event w/fans that paid to be there, which had to be a bit humiliating for him.
