BOTTOM LINE Lack of size and speed combined with his ball skills, instincts, and competitiveness all point to a transition to safety. While he can improve as a tackler, he's got the toughness and mentality to take on run-support duties. Can cover in man when asked and has the ball-tracking skills and anticipation that should allow him to thrive in two-deep and single-high situations. A likely second-day (Rounds 2-3) selection and could be targeted as a zone corner or a safety with early starting potential. -Lance Zierlein
Bears want man cover guys, not zone guys.
Again, I'm an outsider. I understand that the Bears want a man guy and need competition at the kick returner spot. Clearly they see something in Jackson. Cool. From my perspective this wasn't a good pick but, as I started with I'm an outsider who gets the majority of his information from the NFL media.
I think the coaching staff and Pace are a lot higher on a lot of the current players than many of us thought. This would seem to support that notion as they jumped up to get Jackson.

listen i'm as much of an outsider as you are; maybe less. I know I don't know. I just take what little I know, and then read about what was done to try and reason with it.
If the bears want man cover guys, then this guy is a better fit then King is; even if he's graded lower. This goes back to the PFF thing; scheme fit matters. It matters on the OL, it matters on the DL, at DB and every position. a 3-4 5 tech DE cannot be put into a 4-3 DE spot and succeed and vice versa; b/c they aren't asked to do the same things.
This guy is going to be a backup this year, so ST's is key, and he's a man to man project w/upside so he's just a better fit for what Fang wants to do; even if he has a lower cieling then King does overall. But lets face it, at the end of the day these guys are 4th round picks and the larger odds are they will both be out of the leauge in 2-3 years as they will be starters.
Lots have teams have passed on D King so far....so who knows.
yeah... as they did on Brady and many others. That really does not mean a whole lot to me. They get it wrong a lot and there is a lot of group think that goes into these selections as well. Not to say Kink either will or won't be a stud, but the fact everyone is passing him by does not bother me.

How often does a guy getting passed on often go wrong?

Well, as I said, everyone was wrong to pass on Brady. They were wrong to pass on Prescott. And that's just QBs. Teams pass on a lot of players that are good.

That's true, but they also pass on plenty more that are terrible.

Yeah... well, I didn't mention that since it didn't help make my point
He's my favorite player in our draft so far. Don't be surprised to see him playing either nickel or dime in passing situations. He'll be a baller and will (at least) replace Demps when he's too old to play.

Really? He my least. That makes me feel better. Like maybe I am missing something. Not that that could ever happen mind you.....
