He didn't trash the entire team, he trashed Cutler.
“We just had a bunch of b—-es on the roster — that’s why we didn’t win games — and coaches liked the b—-es,” Bennett said.
And that to me screamed mostly Cutler, and a few others, look at what he said after that "“Some guys that you want to be the leader, that’s not the guy that’s a leader,” Martellus said. “Everyone in the locker room knows that this is not the leader, but this is what you want the face of the team to look like.”
He's talking about Cutler, and a few others...still it's not trashing the entire team. btw, go look at the turnover on the roster between 2014 and 2015 and then 2016, I think the coaches agreed w/him.
"After a year and a few weeks of work, Ryan Pace has this roster down to only 17 players with contracts he was not apart of either signing or trading for. 10 of those are draft picks from the last three years and two more are former undrafted free agents that really aren’t costing the Bears much cap space."
That continued onto last years roster, and has further continued into this year. Pace is agreeing w/Bennett.
Pretty awesome thing he did for those kids. I don't think that changes the fact that he's a bit over the top and says some stupid things. There are plenty of idiots in the world that are still good people overall.
Being over the top and saying stupid shit isn't a crime; nor doesn't it mean you are a "cancer", which is what he was painted as.
+1 That's it. He just seems like a guy with a lot of passion for the game, and for that matter, he has a lot of passion about life in general. He didn't always say the right thing. And like all of us here, he sometimes said the wrong thing. Successful coaching in the NFL requires the skill to manage a wide array of personalities. Often the most skilled players are "characters" too. If you can't handle these kind of guys then you shouldn't be an NFL coach.

Well i'm going to always take his comments at face value. I don't find MB to dance around and be vague about other guys while being blatantly obvious about Jay.
And whether he was right or not about the roster, if you have quality character as a person you don't say things like that. Poor character can be just as much of a cancer as legal troubles or what have you.
IMO Pace got rid of the questionable character guys with some of the big name roster moves he made...Minus Forte. i think Forte was an age move and it has proven to be a good one.
questionable character guys don't create issues if you have legit leadership in the lockerroom; shit Briggs, Urlacher and Kruetz were some of the greatest leaders, and all were questionable characters.
No room for 52 choir boys; and the team suffered for much of the guys that were sent packing.
