"Dowell is just 'get open,'" Wright said. "He's not doing anything special; I just think I fit in the offense he runs pretty well. He put no limitations on my game. He didn't just tell me to play slot. He let me play whatever I wanted to play, whatever position. The more you can do with him, the better you'll be."
Anyone besides me look at this quote and ask yourself "I wonder if he really meant to say that?"
Yea I'm all excited for these two to hook back up. "OK, Kendall, just go long and about the time you pass the garbage can in Mr. Edwards driveway, I'll throw it to you, so start looking. Kevin, you run out wide left and count to 3 Mississippi and I'll fake it to you"
I did and now I wonder if Loggains OC professor was Bill Cosby. It pretty much fits with the offense I saw last year that had no basic flavor, few strong points, and if there was a plan it was a failed one.
In his best season he caught 94 passes but barely broke 1000 yards. That's slot receiver numbers not #1 wideout so again how is his production gonna replace AJs?
I know some are accusing me of being totally pessimistic but tell me. How do you all not question moves like this. When Brandon Marshall showed up he told everyone what to expect and then went out and produced. Kendall Wright humbly beseeches you all to share in his hope he can rekindle his magic with Loggains? WFT. A season with just 1079 yards in 16 games? That's only 67 yards per game and that's his all time best?
How happy would you all be if we replaced Jordan Howard with a guy who averages just 67 yards per game?
I was hoping we'd draft Cooper back in 2015 but Oakland wisely took him before we could. Between him and White I felt he was the far more pro ready WR. And Thomas was locked up a year ago so neither of them can be the #1 WR on this team.
If your question is based on would I prefer a more physically dominant #1 WR with far better career stats than Wright then the answer is of course I would but why the hypothetical? Surely you aren't trying to pitch Wright as being the equal of either Cooper or Thomas.
I'm not, and I agree with your assessment of Cooper and I was on board with drafting him....but last year one averaged 72 yards a game and the other averaged 67 yards a game. A lot in this league depends on the opportunities afforded to a player.
Well a quick look at all of their career stats would certainly reveal both are far better receivers than Kendall Wright has been to date. One point I made in my reply to Alex is that it's actually Wheaton whom Pace spent more money on so you would think he's actually above Wright in the pecking order to replace AJ and maybe Wright replaces Royal whom I'm sure will be gone.
Oh, and I see we just re-signed Deonte Thomson too. Pace is really doing a great job making sure all our back end of the roster guys don't up and leave isn't he? LOL

We tried but Langman got hurt
Well at least someone gets it. Ha ha ha
I know some guys are trying to be optimistic but I can't be that optimistic when I look across the board at what was accomplished as far as added talent goes. Even Pace has said "we're adding depth". OK depth is good when it means backups for top tier and impact players but where are those guys?
If we field an 8-8 roster at best how does that get us into the playoffs and worse yet if John Fox could lose playoff games with the stacked 13-3 and 12-4 level rosters he had in Denver what's he gonna do with a lesser one here? Never mind, I think we already know that.
The only logic behind any of this I can see is if it's already been decided Fox is history after this season and they powers that be have simply decided not to overspend on top dollar long term deals now. That would seem a bit bizarre but then when haven't things around Halas Hall seemed bizarre for the past 5 years or so?

As an aside...you know what Alshon averaged per game last year in receiving? 68 yards per game. Anyway...like I said...a lot depends on opportunity in this league. You cannot disagree that Cooper and Thomas have played in better offenses than Wright has...no? Same with Wheaton...he played in an offense with the best receiver in the league, the best receiving back in the league and a great receiving tight end. He's got ability...perhaps he just needs more of an opportunity to show it. I think you may find yourself pleasantly surprised.
As for Deonte Thompson, despite your snide remarks he had over 800 kick return yards last season which was actually second in the league. But hey...you keep on thinking the man does nothing right brother.

Ah shit are you gonna keep making me do this?
You only get to use the excuse highlighted in red the day after I get a consensus agreement that Jay Cutler's career was also impacted negatively by having to play on some horsehit Bears teams with bad or even clueless OCs.
You can slice and dice it anyway you want but if you want me to buy into a Wheaton + Wright = AJ it won't happen OK? No harm, no foul, just plain NO.
And last but not least yes Thomson did have 804 yds on 35 KOR for a whopping 22.97 average which places him much farther down the list in terms of KOR Efficiency than 2nd. I could run up 804 yards in KOR if I returned enough kicks.
Thompson avg. regressed badly from 29.2 in 2015 to 22.97 in 2016. I'd say that's major drop off. Besides we just signed Bennie Cunningham who averaged 28.3 yds per return in 2016 so there will be competition. Yeah!

I've never argued otherwise when it comes to Jay, in fact I was a big Jay defender around here. The offense was bad when he got here. It didn't stay bad though and one has nothing to do with the other in this scenario.
As for Thompson...if you choose to take his average...yeah...it moves him so far down the list from 2nd in the league to 6th! WOW!! HUGE DROP OFF! I know you know enough about football Soul to know that we also need guys to play special teams.

I do but I don't see Thompson as being of all that much help now that we actually signed Cunningham who is a better KOR and a better backup RB than Langford. Wheaton should be able to replace him as a speed WR.
Keeping a guy like Bellamy who may have bad hands but is a top flight coverage guy on ST I don't disagree with but I've not been happy Fox kept Thompson over Mariani even last year. I thought it was a poor decision then and I still do.
Besides with as many DBs as we've been adding we should have plenty of coverage guys without a need for Thompson. He had some impressive KOR in 2015 but did little for us last year and I still have to see him as a final cut type back end of the roster guy.

Thats the good part about adding competition throughout the roster...if Thompson can't beat them out he'll find himself without a job. It's not like they paid him big money...so I don't think they'll think twice about cutting him.

Looking at Cunninghams stats, looks like he's better at recieving out of the backfield then he is at running the ball. 4 years w/the Rams and he only has 50 less targets then he has rushes. Might well be looking at adding competition w/Langford who has been a disappointement.

Thats mainly how he was used...although I don't think very many backs would have been successful behind that o-line this past year in St. Louis/LA
