He needs to. He was unavailable for much of his Franchise contract year due to injury and suspension. I think Biggs hit the proverbial nail on the head when he quoted a NFL insider saying “Talent doesn’t matter if a guy can’t stay on the field." The dude currently isn't worth DT or DB money and Pace needs to show some balls in dealing with him. He should get a big contract but not top tier money until he can stay on the field consistently and that's a big if. He is an injury liability. I like the guy a lot - want him to be a Bear but he needs to stay on the frigging field.
Alshon is getting a street level lesson in market economics. When you decide to test the market, you better have a reality based estimate of what your market value is worth. IMO he was advised badly if he thought he was going to get a lot more.
If Pace had a contract offer of a multiple year deal in the $12 million to $13 million dollar range (with modest guaranteed money), I am glad he stuck to his guns.
In fact he is. He is good. The problem is that players think that's all it takes for a big payday. (with some GMs. that's true ). But you have to be available the whole season. You can't expect to be paid for the whole season when teams don;t think you will be there for the whole season. I think he would have gotten his payday last year after only season of being injured. With two in a row, teams are more reluctant to pay for a whole season. Honestly, I thought someone would step up and do it anyway, but it appears like that may not happen.

I can't knock him too much...I thought his market would be higher too, and it still remains to be seen whether it is or it isn't, but God I hope I'm wrong!
I thought he would get a lot more interest myself. I don't knock AJ for wanting to get the most he can. That is natural. But assuming this ends up the way it is looking now, you can knock his agent.
Your professional support team is supposed to advise you properly. And that includes telling you something you don't want to hear.

Yeah...although Brandin Cooks availability isn't helping his market...and who saw that coming...except for maybe Pace who has contacts still in NO?

Neither is Marshall on the market and the possibility of Decker. However, I'm hanging on with 14,5 mil a season average. He's still the best on the market, and some team is going to view him as a missing piece. I think he was hoping for 17+ but that was always too high. With the cap going up, 14.5 sounds about right to me.

I would have said 15+ but now I'm thinking it could be closer to 13

Agreed. I am thinking somewhere in the 12 - 13 million range. The issue with AJ is the concern about his availability.
I looked at the site sportsinjurypredictor.com and they have AJ rated as an 83% risk to injury. I don't agree with that assessment but I think it does speak to a perceived high level of risk. If you look at Spotrac's list of FA WRs, AJ is listed as the #1 WR available. But they have his market value down to $12.2 million (down from $14.6 million last year).

With the cap going up, 2.3 mil is chump change to a team looking to add a tier 1.5 WR. So he might squeak up to 14.5 mil. We will know soon enough.
