I gave it to Mitch. He strung together several good drives. There were too many dropped passes early in the game which really slowed down the offense. I’m surprised to say it but we need some receivers that will make plays. Robinson can’t do it all. Montgomery is solid in the run and we don’t really take advantage of him like we should. The offensive play calling is mediocre at best.
Really good games for Kwaitkowski and Williams. I thought Fuller also played solid.
Unless we step up our playing, Stafford will most likely put up enough points for the Lions to win in Detroit.
Been critical of Trubs and my position on him going forward hasn't changed but yeah I agree the key difference on the 3 good drives compared to the 9 shitty ones was the OL actually gave Mitch (and Monty) a chance. Credit where credit is due, Mitch made two beautiful throws there.
The OL woes aside ( and I agree they have struggled all year), Mitch does need to be able to make plays when things aren't ideal however and he's not doing that enough. Making nice throws in perfect/near-perfect conditions is good but not good enough. He also needs to be able to recognize coverages, beat blitzes, not take long sacks, and make tough throws under pressure if he's gonna succeed as an NFL QB. He doesn't do those things nearly well or often enough which is why he's not putting up better numbers.
On Nagy, we are in agreement there too. His run game sucks and I think they need to get a new OC and take playcalling away from him for 2020.
Explain to me which run play works when the OL doesn't block the guys their supposed to?
The few run plays that worked were plays where blocks were actually made. It's execution. That's it.
I tend to think that's not it. Two things can be both be simultaneously true.
That the players fail to execute well enough and the coaching staff isn't exactly putting out an effective product aren't mutually exclusive things. Life is more complicated and ambiguous in my mind.
For instance, the little success the Bears have had running the ball all season has come primarily from power running with a lead blocker out of the I-formation yet Nagy refuses to do it much or stick with it. He's actually expressed public disdain for it.
I have the same complaint about him regarding Trubisky and the passing game. Nagy seems to have a stubborn streak by which he continues to favor what isn't working over what is because it's "his way" and "his system".
Are Mitch or the OL playing as well as they should? Of course not But their HC isn't exactly helping them out either.

I wanna disagree but can't ….
but I will say that I put poor execution as causing poor play calling which puts players into positions where they can't execute which leads to.....you get it.

The Lions are wounded without Stafford. He could keep the offense competitive after they lost Kerryon Johnson. Backup QB and backup RB? Yikes, they're free falling to the cellar of the division.

This is what I was responding to. If we were running flea flickers, gadget plays, and seven step drops, every other play I could understand the frustration, but that's not what's happening. This isn't some incredibly complex offense we're running. It's the same one KC is running just fine, even without Mahomes. It's a very flexible offense. Going to the I-formation greatly limits what it can do. Of course Nagy has, likely in desperation, has used the formation from time to time in the last few weeks. But like I said it greatly limits the options for the offense and it's not long before teams adjust to it.
It just breaks my heart to see a Chicago Bears team playing this bad. I think this is the first time I've felt this bad after a win. We won by default... it was a matter of who could play the worst yesterday and lose. The Lions did that with a crippled team (bad AND crippled by injuries). We still came within a whisker of losing anyway.
How on earth did the Bears get to this point? I feel every bit as bad as I felt watching the John Fox teams play. This is bad football. Really bad. I finally turned the TV off yesterday because I couldn't bring myself to watch any more of that game. It made me feel sick (seriously) to watch a Bears team that bad. It hurt too much to watch.
It was definitely a 2 horse race, but I will give it to Trubisky. He threw some really nice passes and did a good job of taking care of the ball. It was not his fault in the first half that these damn receivers can't get open or catch the damn ball. I like our new TE better than Burton (he sucks at blocking and receiving).
