Pace isnt the first GM to struggle to find a QB. In general I like the talent on this team, minus the TE position. Since he failed to do the find a QB in the draft and build, Pace now has to pull off the even harder "drop a vet QB into the mix while drafting another prospect."
I'm still in a "wait and see" mode on Pace. He's had some draft misses, but every GM has some. You just hope they hit on a good percentage. He's been better in the non-first round picks. And we still don't know how some of these picks will ultimately end up.
Same with his coaches. The jury is still out on Nagy and only time will tell if he's going to work out here. Right now his offense is performing a bit worse stat wise than Fox/Loggains last year here. That's pretty bad.
I haven't given up on the guy yet. At the same time I'm not thrilled with the teams he's put on the field except for last season. If the team quits on Nagy this year and he's fired like Marc Trestman, then I'm going to be pretty ticked off with Pace. Is that fair? Probably not. But I'm just being honest.
It's his team. IT's his product. But still, he was hampered initially by Emery's draft crew, and whatever constraints ownership put on him regarding Fox and crew and his input. Then there is the lack of picks, and that lack of picks continues to kill us and will be a problem the next few years. I think he has improved our talent, but he has also drafted poorly overall. White was an injury bust, not blaiming him fr that, but Floyd and Mr. T aren't what they were drafted to be.
I think he can get us threre but he needs to draft better and he needs to get out of the cycle of too few picks.
Then the needs to right the ship. Either replace Nagy or teach him what an NFL Offense is instead of arena ball.
I'd say i'm confident he will try his best and I'm cool with that.
Ever since joining the Bears he has gave an honest shot at trying to address, actual team needs at that time, in which he's hit some and missed some. But overall the talent is MUCH better than what he inherited...which could be argued this year lol
My gut feeling is this will be Pace's last off-season if the Bears are average to below next year, pending a major injury bug throughout the year. He's only signed through 2021 if i'm correct, so his seat is definitely warming.
Pace deserves a ton of credit for the D he assembled. Most of those guys were his picks/signs/trades. Solid "A" from me there.
He equally gets a ton of blame for the disaster that the O is. For every good player he's found on D, he's whiffed huge on a player on O. I can give you a list of Pace's offensive whiffs if you want. It's not a short list.
So what do you do with a Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde GM?
On one hand I know he's not getting fired this year just because of his contract. But I could easily see the whole Pace-Nagy-Trubisky three-headed-monster being handed a pink slip the day the 2020 season ends. I guess it depends on whether you trust Pace enough to give him another QB pick and another HC pick.
It's not looking good right now.
Edit: One more thing. Dear Ryan Pace, please stop trading away draft picks to move up to take a player who turns out to be mediocre or worse. TOO MANY TRADE UPS!

That's an excellent point. Every GM will have a percentage of misses in the draft, but if you have fewer picks to begin with, that is a problem. Right now we don't have all of our picks. I understand "why" Pace did this. But it takes the challenge of keeping the roster talent high - to a whole new level of challenge. You don't have the full talent flowing in to fix existing problems AND to replace players declining or leaving. Look at this year. We are probably screwed trying to fix the roster properly.
