I originally choose Eddie until I realized that we keep the pick as JABF as stated. If that is the case and we keep it pending on cutting Eddie, then Fry is our guy.....

I'm kind of leaning Pineiro. He has the most upside. He actually hasn't been kicking that long and he already seems as accurate as Fry. By all reports he has a significant leg power advantage as well. That could come in real handy in an ugly weather day. Of course Gould didn't have a particularly strong leg and it didn't seem to affect him much.
Neither guy has kicked in the NFL yet (Pineiro was IR'd before the regular season began last year). Fry kicked in the AAF last year and hit every kick, with no misses.
Fry was a perfect 14-14 kicks in the AAF, including 2-2 kicks in a snow storm in Utah that year (both of the FG's were over 40 yards that game).
LINK Chris Emma of 670 The Score noted Fry was able to win over the Bears during a tryout at Halas Hall during the week. He even had a quote from kicking coach Chris Sailer in his article about his thoughts on Fry.
"Very consistent, solid kicker," Sailer said, via Emma. "Gets elevation on his balls. That's one thing that kind of separates him... He's really strong with the mental game. A lot of guys got thin skin. Elliott, nothing really gets to him. If he misses a kick or if something goes wrong, he will rebound quickly."
I don't think Soldier Field kicking will affect Fry at all:
I don't care about the pick. I'm taking Eddie, he's got pedigree...he's got a boot, and the kicking coach has a relationship with him.
I don't care who wins the battle but yeah I think Piniero has the edge. A future 7th round pick is a small price to pay if it gets you a solid long-term kicker.
Even with the kickers off to a better start in camp than in the offseason, do you still see a decent chance the opening-night kicker isn’t on the roster? — @jtbcubs
We’re less than one week into camp, and while Elliott Fry and Eddy Pineiro have performed well, there is a LONG way to go before the season. The Bears are going to weigh performance in preseason games more than practices. Yes, I would say there is still an even-odds chance the 2019 kicker is not currently on the roster. Two good practices for each guy isn’t going to cement anything.

I talked to my Wife about the kicker situation and she said. "Where are they kicking?" I told her where and she got so upset... she said "What tha F@%k for? They should be at Soldiers kicking?"
I like Eddie P. I think he has a stronger leg but have nothing against Fry. I think Eddie is younger and a longer term solution. I really do not care as long as they can make the kicks they need to make.

It does sound like Eddy Pineiro has a stronger leg, and looks just as accurate as Fry (although Fry is kicking 60 yard field goals, so he's not a noodle leg guy at all). One thing that I wonder about is that Fry has type-1 diabetes. I don't know anything about diabetes. Would this be a negative factor, or a non-factor? Anyone have any idea?
