Then he's too easily too provoked, 2 fights in 2/3 days, 2 different teammates... cmon
I agree. It just doesn't make any sense, so I'm wondering if it will come out as to what the heck he was so angry about. This is just a rookie trying to make the team. What does Long prove by trying to hurt the guy by beating him with a helmet? The D is a pretty tight unit this year... I could see Mack, Hicks, Goldman and the boys, taking Long aside and telling him to knock this crap off - or he'll find himself in a body bag.
It looks like his first fight was with Akiem Hicks. He reportedly threw Hicks to the ground. Not trying to make light of Long getting chippy but I'd pay money to see those two go at it.
The second fight as against a rookie DE. From the reports, it was very much one way (all Long). The DE was blocking on an interception return and Long took exception to it. After the fight, Long went over to the sidelines and barfed his guts out.
I am wondering about all the competition at camp. I wonder of Nagy has all these new guys all amped up and TC this year wasn't a lot more intense and physical than the last 2 or 3 years. Also I am not worried about Long. He has always been a total team player and will settle down.

Thanks, I had no idea what actually happened. I'm all for playing hard in practice, and an occasional fight is going to happen. No worries there. But the beating the young guy with his helmet seemed over the top. And I'm dead serious about the D taking care of Mr. Long. Clearly that unit is one mean one that is super tight. I would imaging Long has had a "visit" already by the boys there and told to knock it off. I'd bet money on it. And if he pulls this crap again, he wouldn't be fighting 1 dude. He'd have guys on him who would take him out bigtime. Long better watch himself. He's not the alpha dog he thinks he is on this team.

It could be he is feeling the pressure of all these new young OL guys pushing him. IMO the interior of our OL is absolutely loaded with talent, even going down to the 2nd stringers and the rookies. After this year, Long could be very much on the bubble. He will have $1.5 million in dead money and $8.1 million in cap savings if the Bears terminate his contract. That could be causing stress for Long.

I'm not sure Long would be intimidated by that. He plays with an edge...some guys are just like that. I don't get too excited about guys getting in fights in camp. It's football, it's violent, and camp sucks no matter which way you slice it.
Yes, I know it's a case of "no news being good news" but this is the deadest, dullest, most boring preseason I can remember. There is nothing going on and virtually nothing to read or talk about.
NFL has to reform this in the next CBA. The preseason is too long, too expensive (for STHs forced to pay full price for 2 stupid "games"), and too meaningless. If they cant fix the latter, and they probably can't, then cut it down to 2 games total per team and make the face value ticket price 50% off.

Especially when starters like Cam Newton risk serious injuries in those meaningless games. I really like the idea of a 2 games PS and 18 games reg season. Doubt it will happen, though.
The 2 game PS and 18 reg season w/a 2nd bye week are all going to come after the new CBA. Especially w/some high profiile injuries in the 4 week PS this year. More and more teams are going to take the Bears approach and play no one. So it'll be a 2 week tryout for the bottom 1/2 of the roster. I could see an expansion of 2 week of TC also to maybe allow for a few team on team practices that will be less strain on the starters.
We just need to get to the regular season.... Way too many preseason games..... This from Bears camp: Jeff Dickerson ✔ @dickersonespn Bears safety Eddie Jackson says the starters are “all-in” preparing for Green Bay. There have been no illusions this week about what the priority is for the first-team.

I think that's becoming the consensus around the league. Seems like more and more coaches are ignoring the conventional wisdom by refusing to play key players.
