Was at training camp today. I wanted to be there by 7:30am, so naturally I roll in with the family at 9-ish.
There's a good sized crowd on the north side of the camp sitting on the lawn. They all have lawn chairs. Start thinking that maybe I was supposed to bring chairs. Bleachers look packed. Start thinking today will be a day about learning to get to camp earlier.
We wander the camp a bit. No kids autograph wristbands left. Not surprised. Huge line in front of Staley the Bear. Buy five waters because we are camp novices and brought nothing in with us while people are walking around with rolling coolers of food and snacks. Look at the kids zone bouncy castle area. It actually looks kind of empty, but we came to see practice, and practice we shall see
Reach out to dachuckster. He's in the bleachers by field 3 and says there's room for us. We meet up. There's not one, not two, not three, but four empty rows in front of him. Chuck had saved the row directly in front of him, and then for good measure he cleared out the next three rows through sheer tyranny of will.
We can't believe our luck. Then the Bears start doing a kickoff competition right in front of us. I watch the rest of the practice in style with my 7 year old while the wife takes the littler guys for ice cream.
After practice is just about 10 minutes from being done, we say goodbye to dachuckster and head down for the gauntlet of autograph seekers. Right as we get down, some lady overhears me talking about autographs and gives us one Goodwill VIP section pass.
I send my little guy into a gated VIP area with practically no one in it right in front of the practice field with an autograph football, a pen and a pep talk about how mercy is for the weak.
He absorbs none of that lesson, but is so cute and undemanding the rest of the hounds help him get like 9 autographs, including Trubisky, Daniels and Brey.
I leave him with my wife to watch from a distance to take my other two guys for some last minute fun. No line for Staley. 3 year old goes into giggling fit with Staley for super cute pictures. 5 year old goes ballistic in oversized hamster ball and what not.
Overall, day went from "Oh no," to "Oh hell yeah" with one simple text and a lot of luck.
Trying to figure out attaching pictures using my phone. You will know when I am successful.
Sounds perfect!
It was an awesome day. Jokes aside, if it wasn't for dachuckster saving us those seats, it would have been a much different experience. He's the real hero.
Might get those pics up before the game tonight. Maybe 😁

As I told weneedmorelinemen at the time, I didn't even have to save them. There were a bunch of young 20 something guys who had sprawled out and taken up the 3 or 4 rows in front of us and they had just left before he and his family got there.

That is what beer and liver/onion dinners will do for ya. Dach is the champ of clearing out rows of people

Nah … I simply mix eating a hot & spicy curry with a side of tacos with rice & beans … does it every time.

Chuck is a really awesome guy, he made sure to visit us in Croatia, among other to talk about direction of our forum... both he and his wife - great people

Well, Croatia is one of my favorite Mediterranean destinations. We were a 2 hour ferry ride away. And we scored an ocean front condo with a view of the yacht harbor for something like $65 a night. Other than that there was no reason to stop off in Croatia.
If any of the board members are in Italy (especially if you are in or around Venice), you can hop over to Pula on the cheap. A real pleasant place. Nice weather, great food, nice people. I'd recommend it to anybody.
