But Mitch cannot throw deep balls accurately..... #1 in passes 50+ yards w/6.
To be fair, though, I would be curious what his completion % is compared to other QBs. Did he hit more 50+ bombs because he attempted more? Either way, I think his supposed lack of ability on the deep throws is blown way out of proportion.
No doubt he attempted more. That's normally how it works though. Mahomes got a ton of YAC though, led the league yet no one knocks his total yards, so i think its moot; and just another example of how you cannot center on just 1 stat, or just all the tradtional stats. YAC by WR's and yards through air should also be looked at, and completion rate broken down into short/med/long should also be taken into consideration.
I'm still amazed that soooo many people around te internet and Bears fandom put so much angst and emotion into the first weeks of TC.
How many picks have come when a WR tipped the ball into the air? Yesterday on a route requiring the ball to be thrown before the WR made his cut, Robinson fell down on his break. But sure, let's freak out collectively as fans. We're doomed!!?
Do I believe that Mitch is a good QB? No. I believe he is still a work in progress and either this year or the next a decision will be made. Either way, he is the QB for the next two years.
Why dont you believe Mitch is a good QB? I dont get it. He played like a good QB last year, or am I just used to Cutler!?
I should have said more consistent. He leaves more yards on the field than I'd like, misses too many throws. No QB is perfect and I'm not measuring him up against perfection. I think he is top half right now. Hopefully he moves top third this season. I do think he is showing progress, but isn't there yet
Having said that, I'm not going to freak out that he had a few picks in a practice against a top 3 defense that knows the OFF well..
I'm content with Mitch this year and for the next 10 years as long as he keeps progressing.
I keep thinking about Trubisky as a prospect coming in to the 2017 draft and his inexperience as a college QB. There were several analysts who had him listed as having the all physical skills to be an elite NFL QB. But the knock on him was it was going to take 2 or 3 years of a development investment to get to that point. Or to get to the point that you would know what you have in Trubisky.
And IMO this is exactly where we are with Trubisky. I am basically writing off a majority of his first year with Fox/Loggains and viewing him as having something over 1 years of NFL experience, maybe like 1.5 years.
This all means we will not know what Trubisky's level of play will be as a NFL QB until maybe the middle or end of this season. I am optimistic that he will be at least a high level game manager (thinking of Alex Smith in 2017 with KC) and possibly higher. But we won't know for sure for a while.

And I for one would be ok with that. Long term I am a little unsettled with the contracts going to QBs, but I'll solve that problem later. I think we'll know a lot more about how the Bears view Mitch after this season when the draft rolls around. Taking a QB on day two would be a sign IMO.

I know, the hot takes get ridiculous this time of year.
Every QB throws "lots of picks" in TC every season because its PRACTICE for crying out loud. In practice, the QB doesn't throw the ball away or take off and run like he might do in a game when the throw simply isn't there. He attempts it anyway and more picks result.
I also reiterate what others have pointed out. He's practicing against a defense that may be the leagues very best. It's certainly top-5. The Bears unit is stacked with ridiculous talent at all three levels. The defenses he will face in actual games starting next month simply are not as good.
I continue to believe that 1st regular season game against Green Bay will tell us a lot regarding Trubisky's degree of improvement. What I'm hearing is that Green Bay should have a very solid defense this year, so it should be a great early test to see where Trubisky is at now, and give us a better idea of his ceiling. Of course it will not be a definitive assessment by any means. But still, it should give us valuable insight on what we have in him.
This is the most excited I've been about an opening game of a Bears season. It's the 2nd year in Nagy's schemes. New defensive coordinator and changes on D. New kicker. New RB in Montgomery. Questions about our TE corps. Curious how Dix performs with the Bears against a great QB in Aaron Rodgers. Some key new players. Yeah, we may not have definitive answers on everything, but we sure should have some glimpses into the team and the season.

I guess it depends on one's definition of "very solid" is but I don't see the GB defense as anything to be scared of. I think they will finish the year roughly middle of the road, nothing special.
Clark, Martinez, and Alexander are good players but beyond that I don't see anything intimating on their D. Kevin King is injured again and has been a disappointment, they lost Daniels, and they're starting a rookie at S next to Amos, whom we all know isn't much of a ballhawk or deep cover safety.
Assuming Trub doesn't blow the game with dumb picks, Nagy's O should be able to move the ball and score points as I expect the Bears O and STs to be improved from 2018. The big question for me is: has the Packers O (and Rodgers) had a turnaround?

That's true. A lot of unknowns now. The Green Bay games are rarely easy for us, even going back 40 or 50 years. It should be an all-out war of a game. Last week I re-watched the week-15 game from last year. Green Bay had a lot of injuries and you would have thought we would have won easily, but it came down to the 4th quarter where we won, but easily could have gotten beat. My hope is that Trubisky and the offense start with some good momentum and gain confidence as they execute the plays. And then look good winning that game. I think it would be a great boost going forward with our season. Something positive.

Big factor will be how the LaFleur-Rodgers relationship works out (early signs aren't promising). Will they synergize? Or butt heads?
