Watching some NFL Network and a have seen and read that a few people view this pick as an incredible pick for us. Some some last night named that aftermath of the draft or something like that had an analystist say that this pick was the second best pick team wise.
Montgomery isn't a "generational" player or elite, and (IMO) he's not going to turn out like Hunt. BUTT... Pace has done his homework and got Nagy EXACTLY the back he needs to complete the committee. Nagy's offense (compared to Reid's or even Pederson's) needs less bell cow and more match up advantages from RBs. I'm happy with the pick and happy he made the move to get him, because the fall-off after Montgomery was steep.

Was Hunt seen as "generational" or "elite" when he came into the league? Hunt received a grade of 5.5, Montgomery 5.85. These were some of the knocks on Hunt: "Can elude initial tackle but struggles to accelerate after redirecting his feet. Average explosion traits. Marginal downhill burst through line of scrimmage. Inconsistent inside runner. Gets too cute in the hole when run comes to a close. Looks to spin rather than finish with authority. Needs to run to his size more consistently. Premature in breaking off play-side runs in outside zone. He might not trust his play speed. Slight gear-down into downhill cuts. Could struggle to find chunk runs on next level. Chip "leans" rather than chip blocks allowing open rib shots to go unclaimed."
I'm not saying Montgomery is the next coming of Saquan Barkley, but I think, as you said, he's exactly what this offense needs, and with a good offensive line in front of him has a chance to be pretty damn good, perhaps even elite.
Something interesting on Twitter. Given it is from Lambert, take it with a grain of salt. I am only posting it because if you look at the imbedded video of the Bills draft room (around 5:00 in) they do discuss a trade with the Bears so the Bears can move up to the Bills 3rd round pick at #74.

I think the most you can take out of this is that the bills wanted a rb and were assuming that is what the Bears wanted. if they wanted DMonty or Dsing is not really clear. both were linked to the bears though.

You all know I was a huge Howard fan and was very disappointed when he got traded but I gotta say, the more I read about Monty, the happier I am that Pace chose him over Singletary. I'm already rooting for #32 (assuming that the # his gonna wear).

That's what I meant with grain of salt comment. There is nothing in that video that indicated to me that they (the Bills) wanted Montgomery specifically as opposed to Singletary.

True, but I will say this, Pace knew that the Bills were likely to take a RB and wanted to make sure they didn't take his guy; so it makes me feel better about the trade up. Much like w/the Trubs trade, he might not of known WHO was going to get taken at 3, by SF or whoever traded w/him, but he knew a QB was likely to go there so he moved up, and b/c of the FA qb signing he was able to get the move up for a minimum cost b/c SF didn't think it was for a qb. Guy knows what he's doing no matter what hte media thinks.

Totally agree. More of a comment on Lambert than Pace. Lambert posts it as if he has the smoking gun in documentary proof. This guy from Buffalo could have been seething on the inside because the Bears took Montgomery but he was being videoed and had his poker face working. Or he legitimately wanted Singletary over Montgomery. We will never know.
