Those were dark days for sure. I think we need to remember those days when we tend to get critical of Nagy moving on from J. Howard. Nagy is not building a Mike Tice level offense here. Yes, we miss popular players when we move on from them... like Cam Meredith, Jordan Howard and others whom the fans loved here.
But right now I figure we need to allow Nagy to build his offense with his players. That seems only "right" to me. If we wanted one of the many brain-dead offenses from the past, then we should have just kept those brain-dead coaches (like John Fox) here. I want something better than those old crappy teams.
If I remember correctly, Bennett was redshirted his rookie year because he had trouble learning the OFF. "Wasted draft pick" and "bust" were thrown around.
I don't recall him ever being mentioned as a #1 WR. He was going to be the Bobby Ingram replacement.
Now Juaquin Iglesias was who I thought was going play for a long time. Great call on that one.

JA made some bad picks but this was IMHO one of his worsts. Yeah he was only a 3rd round pick, but he played one game his entire career. How can a professional scouting department be so completely wrong about someone? I could understand a little if he was a 6th or 7th round pick and you were swinging for the fences. What's worse it was done in a year we had no 1st or 2nd round picks.
Of course this was the same draft that they drafted pool boy so I can only assume for their evaluations the scouting department just watched some youtube videos and called it a day.

That draft seemed to me to be a "smartest person in the room draft" and then....

This cannot be about Mike Tice. Tice had drawn up "The Hester Package". That alone would have taken over three weeks for any mere human to understand completely.

And Tice was the innovator who had the OL workin' on the ol' blocking sled all training camp. I can still see him riding on that sled while the OL were hitting it and moving it all over the field at Bourbonnaise. Tice would be riding on top of that sled cackling like a madman, telling them to hit it again... and again...
Those were the good old days. Tice mentoring Cutler into the man he became under the genius one...
