I am not entirely sure this makes us a better team. If we lost Howard through Free Agency, next year, would we have gotten similar or better compensation from a comp. pick?
Most likely not because the formula takes into account the value of contracts signed by the team the player leaves as well, as well as the amount of players that leave the team vs the amount the team signs. In order for the Eagles to get a 2021 comp pick for Howard a team is going to have to sign him to a pretty large deal, and they'll have to lose more players than they sign...with some other things added in. The whole comp pick formula is so convoluted to me.
Whats more valuable to us...a guaranteed pick in 2020 or a "potential" pick in 2021?
I want to note, I’m not sharing these “anti” Howard posts to bag on the guy. I like him as a person and as a player, but there are clearly good reasons/justifications to move on from him. It’s very possible we already upgraded Howard with Davis just by scheme fit alone so why hang on to him?
that is a very telling stat. and it speaks to how bad a fit Howard was. I think i another i was when Howard was in they ran a significant higher % then with any other rb. Howard walking onto the field was a huge tell to the other team and you could see it in the game.
I don’t have the stats in front of me right now but it’s my recollection that Howard really struggled last year until about week 10 or 11. He had a decent game vs GB week 1 and finished late season well but really was ineffective during the heart of the schedule.
He's 3rd in the NFL in yards after contact and rushing since 2016. In 3 seasons he has produce 3,300 yards.
Let's not understate how much he has produce.
Hard to not see you as anti Howard when in another post you say he can't catch. 2018 Howard could catch...
Again if Pace's plan was to trade Howard should of done it last year when his value was at his peak. Now we got worse as a team and help the very team that beat us in the playoffs.
I'm not upset with the fact we traded Howard. I'm upset with how little we got back for him.
I'm not...I said he's a nice back. The fact remains his best year was his rookie year. He's been worse every year since then. Those are facts. He's replaceable. Like I said earlier, if you double Mike Davis's production from last year you get more yards on less carries than Howard had last year. And Seattles o-line is hot garbage!
Further, Howard CAN'T CATCH. Thats not me being anti-Howard, thats me stating a fact. Last year there were 45 other running backs who had more receptions than he did. The year before that there were 47 other running backs with more receptions than him! If he could catch, why doesn't he do it more? He had 20 receptions in 2018. On a team that threw the ball 512 times.
We didn't get worse as a team in my view. We're basically the same in the running back department, as I said, Mike Davis essentially equals Jordan Howard, but better in the pass game. What did you think Howard would have garnered in the trade market? Even last year? Carlos Hyde has 3,300 rushing yards...guess what he was traded for? Adrian Peterson was traded for a 6th round pick. ADRIAN PETERSON! Running backs that aren't special are not going to return a ton. Thats just the way it is in the NFL today. So Jordan Howard coming off an 1,100 yard season isn't worth much more, if anything at all than Jordan Howard coming off a 900 yard season. Again, these are facts. It's not personal.
Yeah, running backs in today’s NFL seem to valued in pretty much just 2 tiers:
Theres a few elite, game breaker types (Barkley, Gurley)
and everyone one else is pretty much expendable and replaceable (late round pick trade value)

I hate to see him go but I do recognize he did not fit. Devil's advocate thou, I believe it was reported he had a bit of an undisclosed injury. But I have no idea where I heard/read that so maybe I was dreaming and wanted to have a real excuse.
4.52 at his pro day...which is where Howard ran his 4.59. Had Howard ran his 40 at the combine(the only thing he didn't do) he would have been in the 4.6's to 4.7's based off his pro day time. Also, unlike Howard, Davis can catch the ball.
Apples and almonds, boss. Fact is, Davis ran a 4.61 on a fast surface where guys where pounding out 4.3s and 4.4s. That’s an apples to apples fact-based argument.
How many drops did he have this season? Zip
Who has more career everything, including receptions?

Fact, every year Mike Davis has gotten better, Howard has in fact regressed; and w/a team that was improving every year. Fact Howards worst year was the Bears best Offensive year w/him on the team and their best record. Fact apparently no team agrees that Howard is that special.

LOL...how is that apples to apples or fact based? Jordan Howard did not run a 40 at the combine. He ran it at his pro day. Combine 40's are laser timed, pro day 40's are not. Apples to apples comparison is therefore pro day to pro day, not pro-day to combine.
Howard had 1 drop this season and 6 drops in 2017. And yes...Howard has more production than Davis does...which makes sense...seeing as how he's played more than Davis has.

Well, it’s rather impossible not to improve on the 58 yards on the ground and 38 through the air he had in his rookie season. Oh wait! He totally accomplished that feat with 50 and 25 his second year.
Don’t need to prove that statement any more ridiculous.

Your reading comprehension skills need some sharpening. Speed is relative and relatively speaking on a level playing field, he showed bad speed when compared to his peers.
As for the the second part, I can only find a single source that had him with a single drop in 2018. I do see 3 for Davis, though, on that same site. A 3.7 to 7.1 drop rate respectively.
Just to restate this, I like Davis, but the level of misinformation and hyperbole on his abilities is ridiculous. He’s not "fast" but he is shifty and has a good first step. He’s not Bell out of the backfield but he runs a decent route and has good body control. He’s Dion Lewis.
