Report: Bears do not plan to sign a kicker from tryouts today Posted by Charean Williams on April 10, 2019, 4:17 PM EDT Getty Images
The Bears worked out more kickers Wednesday, but they do not plan to sign any of them at the moment, Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune reports.
Caleb Sturgis (pictured), Younghoe Koo and Nick Rose kicked for the Bears during this round of tryouts. The Bears also have worked out Josh Gable, Ernesto Lacayo, Austin MacGinnis, Blair Walsh and Nick Folk in previous workouts this offseason.
They signed Redford Jones and Chris Blewitt, and those remain the two kickers on the roster.
Chicago is in the market for a new kicker after cutting Cody Parkey last month.
Sturgis, Koo and Rose all have kicked in the NFL. Jones and Blewitt never have kicked in a regular-season game.
This guy intrigues me and I wonder if Harry Hiestand may see him as a talent worth developing. He is the DE undrafted guy who Harry took on to the offensive line last year. He sounds like a really athletic 6'6" and 320lbs, and only 24 years old. Here's a blurb from his pre-draft scouting report:
"Has desired NFL size for multiple spots along the defensive line. Shoots hands quickly into blocker's frame and usually creates early arm extension. Has flashes on tape where he can impress as read-and-react defender at point of attack. May have enough flexibility to play as a big nose in a 3-4. Looks to attack under the pads and roll his hips under his extended arms to generate a leverage point. Has ability to set a strong edge."
LOL, only Harry H. could take an undrafted defensive nose tackle prospect and make him into a good OL. Gotta love it :-)
What Leno is doing in the off-season. Looks like a lot of relaxing fun!
Leno has improved every year. I frankly thought he stunk that first season and was angry he was even playing. But the guy has proven himself for sure. He is certainly a Bears player I respect now. The guy must have worked crazy-hard to improve as he has. That video is a good one for sure. He's just a grinder. It must require a fanatical work commitment to cross that bridge from college talent to NFL starter.

And a serious personal financial commitment. This guy Duke Manyweather who he is training with is right up there with Lecharles Bently as an OL training specialist. These guys don't come cheap.

Leno has become not just a starter but a pretty damn good one at LT, which is one of the toughest positions to play. That's unbelievable value from a 7th round pick.

Why I love Kyle Long. I hope he has three or four healthy years before he has to retire. His personal drive is just awesome. There is just no quit in that dude.
