Why would a top DC in a franchise and a city that yearns for defense leave. He knows how hard it is be part of a winning team. He knows this could be the beginning of a Dynasty that happens so rarely. I am also sure he knows the history of Chicago and what could have been in the mid 80's.
He could reach sainthood in Chi-town like Ditka and do anything he wants. Shit if this team goes in the shitter he would still be able to find a sap owner to leach onto for his last few years.
This is his Defense and it is a top defense. No one in their right mind leave it at his age only to restart again. He had it good in San Fran and also saw how fast it can decline. He will stay.
Because there are only 32 NFL head coaches. Even if it was a shitty situation like Miami, he will still be 1 of 32. You have to take the chance. He should only see how he can turn things around in Maimi not the idea they always suck. He has been a DC a long time, HC it the top and you have to go for it.
Greatest single argument I have heard for Fangio leaving is that there are only so many young OC minded/QB guru's to go around and there are a lot of HC'ing vacancies.
Fangio is going to get a lot of looks and interviews, and someone might well like what he has to say enough to give him a shot. His defense seems to translate anaywhere. What will help is that he runs a 3-4 scheme, so unless the team is planning on tearding down the def and starting over, he likely has to go to a 3-4 already in place.

That makes sense for any up and coming coordinator but we're talking about a man who's going to turn 61 this year and is already making money similar to that of a lower HC. Why leave and take on more responsibility?
What does he truly gain from leaving? He mostly won't be in the NFL in the next 5 years? He has a great situation in Chicago and a chance to win a ring here as well. If you're going to another team you're most likely going to have to rebuild and that's going to take a few years as well.
Again we're not talking about some 30's to 50's year old coaches. We're talking about a 60 year old one...

Exactly. I can’t believe how naive some of you are. Every football coach dreams of one day being a head coach in the NFL. If Vic is offered this opportunity I fully except him to take it. It will suck for us but he’s more than paid his dues and has earned an opportunity.
I've long believed Vic won't get a head coaching job. He's 60 and as I've said this isn't the first time he's had one of the best defenses in the league. He must not interview well...or maybe he doesn't have great connections with offensive coaches...something, because he hasn't landed a head coaching job yet, so I'm not sure why now would be different. Also, teams like Arizona, NYJ, Tampa, Browns all have relatively young QB's they want to build around. That screams offensive coach to me. I could be wrong...but I'm willing to take my chances.
