Well after the Trestman years this team was a mess. We needed a guy like Fox here to help turn around this culture of negativity. He did just that. Got good coaching staff in place and got rid of the trouble making players rather they were a negative in the locker room ( B Marsh ) or just doesn't give a shit about the game ( J Cutler ).
My only problem with Fox was he stayed one year too long here. After his 3-13 season it was clear his way of Football just isn't working and with the rumor of him not knowing we were going to pick Trubisky only shown me more of a reason why he didn't belong here. His stubbornness to play a horrible backup QB in Glennon over Trubisky shown he didn't care about winning games.
To truly change a culture into a winning one. You have to win games. Something we never did with Fox here. I don't think it was do to lack of talent either. It was more so his conservative old school approach in his football. Gone are the days of being a run first team in the NFL and staying competitive. The NFL has changed drastically over the years and he refused to adapt. Its a QB league now.
Nagy benefited greatly from what Fox gave us. Without Fox here. I don't see this team being 11-4 right now but that's not to make Nagy look bad. Nagy was the missing piece our coaching foundation needed. We needed a young hungry HC to help develop our very raw QB.
Those are all good points and probably right, but I do wish the Bears could have started this with a great hire after Lovie was let go. I feel like 5 years were just wasted. But I understand there are an infinite number of moving parts in this process and you can't replicate what we have now. That was December 31st 2012 when Lovie was fired. No Nagy, Trubisky, Fangio, Mack, Cohen... and a host of others were available. But maybe we could have at least skipped over the Emery/Trestman fiasco.
You make some good points motm.
