This Chicago Sun Times poll surprised me. It does seem like the McCaskey Family is now seen as the #1 problem with the Chicago Bears franchise - not John Fox or Ted Phillips. Interesting.
I think Bears fans are finally figuring it out. Firing coaches is easy, but it never solves the problem with the Bears. The McCaskeys toss the Bears fans a bone by firing people, and in the past that calmed the fans down for a few years. But the fans are smarter now. They are on to the McCaskeys, and they are focusing on THEM more than just canning Fox.
"George McCaskey: Very little his family has done with the product on the field has worked over the last three decades. The chairman has followed the same disastrous pattern of hiring that has haunted the Bears since founder George Halas died. I used to think it wasn’t possible to hate comedic incompetence — it’s like hating the last player on a no-cut team for a lack of athleticism — but I finally saw the light. If you own a sports franchise, you have an obligation to run it professionally. It’s great that McCaskey can trace his roots back to the beginning of the NFL. But the apple fell several suburbs from the Halas tree."
True but oh so typical of Morrissey whose the most hated sportswriter in Chicago. Misery loves company and Morrissey is usually a miserable excuse for a sportswriter.
Personally I had to go with Phillips. At least McCaskey will speak about the team. Phillips hides as if he has nothing to do with it yet he's a whisperer in the dark who has plenty of clout with the McCaskeys. Owners never fire themselves but Teddy Bears could have been and should have been fired over the Emery hire if not before. This is the guy who feels building corporate partnerships trumps fan relations and winning. He's the cancer who needs to be removed.

IMO also, Phillips is probably the biggest culprit of the corporate environment there. He also does a fine job of both staying under the radar (not taking any blame) and yet still calling the shots.

To me he's the McCaskeys Svengali and at the top of the food chain as far as the systemic problem goes.
I got a kick out of the article that said GMcC was gonna move him out of reach of making any football decisions but decided against it because they value his NFL contacts. Yeah like other NFL teams loved Ed McCaskey too because he was such a fool.
The McCaskeys problem is they can't even see that they are their own worst enemy and Phillips is a big part of that.

A load of crap. He may have contacts, but that does not mean that they respect him. And even if they did, he is still in the building, just in a different function. The contacts would not go away and he could make the introductions. The contacts would not go away.
