James Franklin just signed a 6 year coaching extension. He might have been a good choice. Urban Meyer does not appear to have any interest in the NFL. It might be a more difficult transition for him because he has never coached in the NFL in any capacity and because of his style of offense.
I think it we're gonna draw from the NFL well of OCs and DCs I tend to favor a guy like Reich whose had a ton of recent success with a young QB not unlike Mitch. Added to that is the fact that he's been one of the most successful backup QBs in NFL history so he's also played the game at a high level.
I don't really have a DC I favor over a guy like Dave Toub but he's rumored to be a candidate from Pagano's job at Indy if he's let go. We may not get Toub but the we may get Pagano as a DC under a guy like Reich. To be honest when it comes down to it those both available and willing to coach here may be far fewer than we'd like.
If we line out those who want too much roster control the list shrinks a lot. Reich works for a team with a separation of powers more similar to ours so he may find it easier to accept a symbiotic role along with Pace than to demand full control. At age 56 he's about out of time to be tabbed for a HC job as well.
Other names are likely to pop up soon but again we need to be realistic about what we have to offer and how much $$$ the McCaskeys will spend on a HC. That will have it's own built in limitations as far as attracting someone like Jim Harbaugh even if he did have an inclination to coach the Bears.

OC that can develop QBs scare me because they do not have any HC experience. Trestman fell into that category even though he had been a HC (but in Canada). I'd really prefer a person with HC experience. HC takes a difference skill set. I have seen the "first time" HC thing lots of times here in Chicago. I'd like to try and board a different train this time.

Might be nice but where ya' gonna get one? Either you're getting a guy who failed elsewhere or you keep Focks. Harbaugh ain't given U of M up to work for half price in Chicago. Hell, Trestman was a HC and is again.
Would you prefer Pagano to guys like Reich or Toub if Indy does fire him. Mike McCoy is employable too. He's an offensive guy. I just don't know where we'd get a former NFL HC who hadn't also been fired somewhere.
