Bears finalizing deal with Mark Sanchez Bears to sign QB Mark Sanchez on one-year deal By: Lorin Cox | 2 hours ago
The quarterback position in Chicago is in the middle of a transformation, for better or worse, as Ryan Pace continues to add new faces to the mix under center. The Bears are finalizing a deal with free agent Mark Sanchez after bringing him in for a visit, NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport revealed Thursday night.
Sanchez spent the 2016 season with the Dallas Cowboys, helping to aid in the development of their rookie quarterback, Dak Prescott, throughout the season along with Tony Romo in the QB room.
The 30-year-old former first-round pick only attempted 109 passes over six games in the last two seasons. He’s currently sitting at a career completion percentage of 56.7 with the dreaded 1:1 touchdown-to-interception ratio.
Sanchez played in Dallas on only a one-year, $2 million contract, so it’s hard to imagine him earning much more than that, if at all, in Chicago as purely a backup option to Mike Glennon.
Connor Shaw was the only other quarterback under contract, so it’s not too surprising that Pace wanted to add someone with some experience on the depth chart, especially if he plans to add a rookie to the equation in the NFL draft.
Sanchez seems to be a good Mentor for a Young guy needing development. I like it if true. Glennon, Sanchez and a QB that Needs time - like Kizer
From what I am reading, this is the reason he is here. The Bears liked how Sanchez mentored Dak Prescott for Dallas. There are a number of articles about how he helped Dak. Having a guy like that in our QB room is a good thing. I think Ric hit the nail on the head, when he said that this just confirms that the Bears are going to draft a QB this year in an early round. I'm pretty excited about that. It seems like it has been forever since the Bears have drafted a QB in an early round.
I feel like a kid waiting for Christmas morning. I'm dying to see who the Bears draft :-)
Pace better draft one of the top 3 QBs or I'm gonna be really mad.
I don't know about you guys, but I'd rather have a rookie & Cutty than Glennon and Buttfumble.
No one in the NFL right now wants Cutty, so it's you JJ and Soul in that belief. Cutty and a rookie would never work, which is why he's viewed as a bad Bridge qb, but only as a bridge qb not a franchise guy...which is why he's not on a team right now. He's going to have to wait until a team is desperate to get his shot.
