How exactly does the signing of Sanchez make the drafting of a QB seem less evident? Someone explain that logic to me cause I think it only makes it more clear we're drafting a QB early.
I can explain. Personally I think they need to take a QB @3.
1. Glennon is going to start. 2. Bears like Shaw and resigned him.
Now thats 2 slots right here.
3. Sanchez now signs, thats three. 4. If a QB is drafted, that its likely that the Bears attempt to move Shaw to the PS, but IMO someone will put in a claim on him.
So, do they carry 4 qbs? It depends on how much they 'like' Shaw. In a league desperate for QBs, like I mentioned above, I don't know if Pace can sneak him onto the PS. Looks to me now that the depth chart will look like Glennon-Sanchez-rookie or Glennon-rookie-Sanchez. If Shaw can get through waivers, than he'll be on the PS. Does anyone know of a site that lists PS eligibility for players?
Don't know where else to put this so I'll throw it here. We hear a lot about 2nd round QBs, but there have only been 25 QBs drafted in the second round since 1994. footballoutsiders lists 6 good QBs during that time but I have a hard time listing Plummer, Stewart, and Kaepernick as good. So thats three. JimmyG is an unknown at this point.
So where are all those 2nd rounds QBs that its easy to find?

Shaw has PS eligibility. Here are the rules:
A player cannot participate on the practice squad for more than three seasons; he is eligible for a third season only if the team has at least 53 players on its active/inactive list for the duration of that player's employment, or have no prior accrued seasons in the NFL (an accrued season is six or more games on the active roster); or if he has accrued a year of NFL experience on a club's 53-man active roster. If the player was on the active list for fewer than 9 games during their "only Accrued Season(s)", he maintains his eligibility for the practice squad. Games in which a player is listed as the third-string quarterback (a designation that has been abolished as of 2011) do not count as being on the active list.[3]
As for who's on the roster, it's a 1 year deal for Sanchez with what I would imagine to be minimal guarantees. I can't see them carrying 4 QB's and truth be told I'm not worrying about Shaw if we draft a guy at 3.

That's my take on it. Sanchez was credited with mentoring Dak Prescott, and was a good asset that rookie season. I think the Bears are preparing for the young QB rookie they will draft, and want Sanchez as a resource.
Well, following the signing of Sanchez as a #2 which follows the signing of Glennon as a #1 I'd bet a buck Pace won't spend that #3 pick on a QB. I see all the signs of QB hell developing again.
Agree^^^^^^. I still think if a future star is there the position is critical and you should take him. But as Soul pointed out it looks less likely with the signing of Sanchez. Hopefully Kizer falls to round 2 and we snag him. Do not see Watson falling to round 2.
The Bears committed $1 mil guaranteed to Sanchez so not keeping him around this season seems pretty unlikely. Cap space or not my guess is Teddy Bears and the McCaskeys would see any other scenario as having wasted money. So....we have yet another $2 mil backup who can't win and even manages to throw picks at a far greater rate than Cutler ever did.
If Pace truly believes Watson or Trubisky is his franchise guy then he should draft him whenever he needs to in order to avoid losing him. Kizer may have more upside but may also be the biggest "project" of the three. I would not gamble that #3 pick on any of them but sooner or later Pace has to grow a set and take some risks on a QB. It can't be ignored any longer.

And I believe that is a bunch of crap and just more of the spin coming out of Halas Hall. Prescott also had Tony Romo and HC Jason Garrett, a former NFL QB, as his mentors so don't tell me Mark Sanchez was more instrumental in his development than those two.
We have Dowell Loggains and John Fox at the top of our food chain which most anyone would say is a decided weakness as far as bringing in an inexperienced rookie to develop. So is Sanchez a $2 mil backup or do they plan to make him a $2 mil QB coach?
Who else but the Bears would ever think that Mark Sanchez is a guy who should be entrusted with helping to develop a young QB? What's next, JWebb or Frank Omygod as our OL coach? This is getting like Alice in Wonderland.....curioser and curioser.

I don't personally give a damn who Pace picks at #3 knowing Pace it will be a worthless and wasted pick. You won't agree and like always it really won't matter since this is a forum and not the war room.
Pace has signed 3 veteran QB on the roster now, to go after a QB at #3 tells me he doesn't know what doing. It's like I'll throw 4 QBs at the wall and if one sticks I'll keep him.
Also I keep hearing how the QB class in this draft is weak and how much better next years class. Don't know how true that is but sounds right. If that is even remotely right then wait and see how these QB's do and then pick a QB next year in the draft. If the Bears end with a winning record great, if not then will still have top 10 pick more like another top 5 pick next year.
Also it looks like the QB position is well covered this year and the Bears have positions that need to be covered.
